***WEDNESDAY REVIEW*** By recommendation from a friend. I found this guy. This guy, obviously, being #nicholascage in a movie about the country. This is a theme for me these weeks instead of my usual Christmas movies. This movie takes place in the back woods of the south where a young boy and a older gentleman cross paths discovering they have much more in common than either one of them want. It gets - overwhelming at the end. Mostly because you don’t know what is happening exactly but you know someone is gonna die. Thankfully, most of the characters you want to die - do. I don’t feel bad about that spoiler, honestly. Because you spend a majority of the movie sitting there going “he talks A LOT. The score “Joe” by Jeff Mcilwain and David Wingo is nothing but pure soundscape design. Although you will hear a certain repeated motif that is first introduced in “Sharpening Knives”, the overall score is made up of sonic textures, sparse piano and unnerving tones. In the film, the score works well and most people don’t seem to realize the effort it takes into creating good sound design that matches a scene or character’s mood. Wingo and Mcilwain pull it off with this one but the listener has to be in a certain mood and/or appreciate sound design scoring to fully enjoy it - 6.5/10.

Okay so my rating for the two movies I saw are as follows:

Epic: A very good movie in my opinion. Cute scenes as well as action scenes mixed together. 9.0/10

Fast and Furious 6: An okay continuation of the series but at this point they're trying to extend the series for a little too long. They fill in gaps and it is a good film if you want cars and action, just like the other 5 films. 8.0/10
