Jeffrey is paranoid and detail-oriented, a master at helping those with abilities disappear from the law without a trace. He won’t hesitate to bend or break the law, and can often be found on the ground at anti-police protests and rallies against organizations like SHIELD. He tends to get fired up in these situations and has been detained more than once.
Jeffrey is surprisingly charismatic and warm, making his clients feel safe and at home when staying with him. He doesn’t sugar coat the truth when it comes to danger, but he is confident in his abilities to help and uses this to assure them.
As a father, he gives Marty more independence than most kids, often letting him stay home alone for days at a time while he travels for work and giving his son the freedom to make his own decisions. Despite the occasional distance, Jeffrey would do anything for his son, once even getting into a fistfight with the dad of a classmate that was bullying Marty in middle school.
Jeffrey Fields was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1963 to Norma Fields and Jeffrey Fields Sr. The youngest of three boys, he spent his childhood tagging along with his older brothers, one of whom was a Woodstock hippie, and the other who spent more time on the sandlot than in school (and who went on to play minor-league baseball). Jeffrey studied law at CUNY School of Law and chose to stay in the city after graduation.
Jeffrey Fields married to Ingrid Watson, an health guru from California, in June of 2000 and Ingrid gave birth to their son, Martin (Marty) Fields soon after. Jeffrey and Ingrid divorced when Marty was eight, Jeffrey getting full custody of his son and his mother moving back out to California to settle some personal issues. It was at this point that Jeffrey began to dive into his activism work, now separated from his ex-wife who disproved of such things.
Jeffrey soon became the go-to person for those with abilities looking for legal help or needing assistance in disappearing from organizations like SHIELD. Jeffery and Marty even housed a few of this clients while helping them set up new lives.
In December of 2014, Jeffrey and Marty took in Willow Wren, a mutant around the same age as Marty. Jeffrey’s son and Willow became fast friends, and Jeffrey became a fierce protector of her, rising to the occasion when SHIELD came knocking in regards to suspicious events in the city.
In December 2015, when Marty was found murdered in the apartment after a school dance, Jeffrey kicked Willow out of the apartment, both fearing for her life and his own, while grapping with the death of his only son. Marty’s death destroyed him, causing him to stop working for months and only jumping back into action when the Sokovia Accords were signed.
In the years following, Jeffrey only became more outspoken against SHIELD and other government entities targeting gifted people, fueling his grief into his work and eventually reconnecting with an older Willow, asking for her assistance in helping his clients.
