ok but i’m going to make a headcanon post about john’s movie and television interests because this is a thing often missed in the fandom you feel
i mean, there’s so much emphasis on nick cage, which is all well and good, bUT HAVE YOU SEEN HOW MANY POSTERS WITH MCCONAUGHEY HE HAS???
it always seemed to me that, while he likes cage a lot, mcconaughey is actually his favorite actor.
and he’s obviously OBSESSED with apocalyptic movies.
and he loves sci-fi anything.
as well as trash comedies. especially those with a sci-fi element (think SPACEBALLS and LITTLE MONSTERS, like wow smh i love spaceballs though).
basically the genres john likes most are sci-fi and trash comedies.
apocalyptic films are also a favorite, as mentioned. oBVIOUSLY. how often is that referenced in canon?
i’m sitting here thinking about this particular john and how small he is compared to most of my johns who are typically like
5’11” to 6’1”, right around that height, once they’ve all stopped growing at least (because while this isn’t true for all the johns i’ve rped in the past, it is a recurring pattern that they all start off as short stubby kids who shoot up like bean poles).
meanwhile, this john is like. maybe 5’6” or 5’7”, and he’s really young for a sylph. probably just barely 18 in terms of developmental stages as i wouldn’t want to make him younger for the sake of the timeline. he is physically a lot older (hundred years maybe?), so when at times he can be both full of playful youth and appear deceptively young, he is also wise and experienced in certain aspects.
there’s a balance i want to play with, i guess.
he’s never experienced a close intimate relationship before coming to cirque de l’estrange, though, being such a windy nerd. never really stayed in one place. not that the circus stays in one place. but, ok, he’s never hung around the same crowd for very long till recently. yes.
he’s probably only been with the circus for a few years, maybe. and even then, he’s kind of unintentionally kept to himself and the instruments with the exception of dave and whoever else (we can always plot it out if you want to have had an established relationship beyond casual 'I know your name and face but not much else' kind of deal prior to interaction here). not really a thing he meant to do! and he’d like to poke out and get to know everyone, which he sees his new iphone as a chance to do that. :B!
he kept to the instruments moreso because while he’s always been fascinated by others, he could never interact with them before, with fear of being captured and contained. but since he’s been, well, captured and contained now, there’s no sense in withholding himself socially anymore. and he’s just now feeling comfortable with the idea, though he might be a little clueless about certain things.
at this point im rambling, but yeah. the initial point of this post was to laugh at how small this john is compared to all my other johns and how it’s unlikely he’ll grow or age much/if at all beyond this point, at least physically.
☁ :Describe how they would spend a stormy, overcast/rainy day.
john would likely spend a day like that indoors if he could, watching movies with some popcorn and a cozy blanket.he finds this weather the best sort of cuddle weather, though without anyone to curl up with, he ends up feeling pretty lonely.a lot of things make him feel that way, but this is one of the bigger things. |:
pretty much any of his nightmares involving sburb, really.he's prone to anxiety attacks whenever he thinks too much about the things he can't or has trouble remembering.his past in general is a huge trigger for him.one of the biggest triggers for him, though, is mentioning his father. his dreams about his father, talking about his father--he'll likely come apart at the seams whenever the topic shifts to his dad.and let's not even talk about his dreams of sburb involving his father.
⊗ :What is something that causes them to question themself?
this is something john doesn't let himself dwell on.he tries not to dwell on anything much overall, but question himself and his choices is definitely something he refuses to let himself loiter on more than fleeting passing.he does not want to live in regret and it's difficult, really difficult, but he does his best.all the same, it's the little things in his life that give him pause. his dreams, especially.
✖ :Describe a way to make them uneasy or apprehensive.
the quickest and easiest is just simply mention his dad.or just his past in general. his scars.
for a more lighthearted sort of deal, just flatter him. flirt with him.he doesn't know how to take a compliment, to be honest-- mostly because he's pretty down on himself.but he likes the attention, even if he feels silly for getting all flustered.he likes to feel appreciated, especially, like his company is wanted.to be honest, he's just really loNELY.
۞:Are there any inner demons they can never seem to get rid of? What are they?
omg, john has a terrible habit even still, as a matured adult, of putting his foot in his mouth.he says things without thinking first sometimes and his words come out worse-sounding than they are meant, or takes action without thinking.he's an impulse-driven kind of guy, and this leads to some poor choices at times.to be honest, he's a well-meaning asshole. haha
