I kinda want to hear more of your thoughts on Keisha/justin relationship + chemistry
Sure!
So, the first thing that comes to mind about the Keisha/Justin "Jeisha" relationship is how relatable of a high school romance it is. Like this part
had me like WOW because I remember when I first started seeing the boyfriend I had in my last year of high school and he didn't text me the entire weekend and I was like OK, well, he's cut and I was one of the editors of the school newspaper so we had an "office" and on the Monday, he came by to explain and it was something like, he went on a family trip and they took his phone and that's why he didn't text and I didn't believe him so his younger sister came by like no, no, it's true, he was stressing the entire trip, begging for his phone, I'm so serious, and when I finally relented, he was like damn, all it took was two days for you to cut me off???
So, that entire situation of when Justin's mom took his phone and Keisha thought he ghosted after she admitted to having a crush on him when they were younger, and re-blocked him, I was like, girl, I understand, we've all been there.
And there were a lot of moments like that throughout the show, where I'd be like oh yeah, I remember what that was like. I found it a very honest and frank depiction of what romance but particularly a teenage romance looks like, which means that there will be miscommunications and emotionally immature behaviour at times
But also, the show does a good job in illustrating the urgency and intensity of feeling like this for the first time
like waking up and the first thing you do is check your phone so you can see if you got a text or to text
where it can feel like emotional life or death
in a way I don't think current teen dramas do well and that, in large part, is due to their chemistry, which is very giddy and very kinetic, you can feel the excitement and how the two of them get along
and you can also see and feel the draw
which is emphasized with certain shots that allow the setting to help reveal the emotional aspects of what is happening in the scene
but it's also because they show us why the two of them would like each other; they crack each other up
we see them get to know each other
which then comes back around when she starts watching Naruto and leaving him voice notes etc.
He's there for her when it comes to her mom finding out
She's trying to help him discover what he truly loves
Like, it works, they're not without their problems as we obviously see, but they're cute and the show does a good job in showcasing why Justin would get everyone in their kindergarten class to tag her in #unblockjustin posts and why she would travel to Martha's Vineyard after three months to make up with him.
But at the same time, as high school romances often go, they emotionally grew apart, Keisha is determined and focused and Justin needs to work things out and figure out his identity and his future, which is something that he has to do for himself. So, I think they did all of that well.
Lovie and Micheal for the Savage x Fenty Valentines Day Collection
Five day until we meet Jeisha (Justin x Keisha)
Aside from the romantic aspect that alludes to their forever love, Keisha and Justin's lives were changed forever the moment they reunited at that party. The title of the show fits so well in that regard because it's not just about their forever love, It's also about their individual lives forever.
Meeting Justin led Keisha to finally be open to her mom about the sex tape which helped their mother daughter relationship as a whole. And even before she told her mom, he gave her a safe place and another outlet to help carry all that weight.
Meeting Keisha led to Justin finally being able to find himself through music and also open up to his parents about what he wants. And similarly as he did for Keisha, she also gave him a safe place and another outlet until he was ready to tell his parents.
They came into each other's lives for a reason and they left as better humans for it. Their meeting totally changed the trajectory of the rest of their lives.
Your teenage years are pivotal years in your life. A time where you're discovering your identity, a time that mostly dictates the rest of your life. I loved how the show embodies that with Keisha and Justin. The romance aspect was beautiful, but I also loved how they depicted these characters as very relatable teenagers with realistic problems. There were no over the top dramas. Their stories were ENOUGH.
