the lecturer basically told us that unless you’re familiar with how scifi works, it’s better to avoid it as it’s obvious when someone’s writing it who’s inexperienced in scifi. And as for fantasy, well, apparently that’s so full of clichés that there’s no point in writing it unless you do something new with those
Which, yeah, I get his reasoning behind it. The only problem is that I’m doubting myself and my abilities because I’ve read a lot of scifi, but have I not read enough? I’ve read a lot of fantasy that uses clichés but I’ve also read a lot of fantasy that subverts these normal clichés?
I just. I feel like there’s nothing I can think of to write that hasn’t already been written before, not only with these genres but. Everything in general. This self-doubt is why I nearly didn’t take this class in the first place and tbh I probably just need to build a bridge and get over it already
