Butterflies in Julie and the Phantoms

also called follow the butterflies of julie’s character growth

So unsurprisingly the first episode doesnt have a lot of butterflies as it is Julie’s motif and since she’s still mostly mourning her mom and unable to unleash her music the butterflies arent present much

The fact that the first butterflies we see are hidden is directly linked to how much Julie has supressed herself as she mourns her mom the Purpleypink one most likely symbolizes her the white one at the bottom maybe is not as important due to being so easy to miss. Could also mean her life is feeling colorless and empty.

The orange is significant because it’s the color of a sunset and these butterflies appear best when Julie starts to sing. Kinda like how maybe Sunset Curve has inspired her to try singing again.

Julie wearing butterfly clips shows her desire to try music again but there’s still doubts hence the smallness of the butterfly clips.

I’ve decided to go down a more 'realistic’ route for now but we’ll see how that goes

the lecturer basically told us that unless you’re familiar with how scifi works, it’s better to avoid it as it’s obvious when someone’s writing it who’s inexperienced in scifi. And as for fantasy, well, apparently that’s so full of clichés that there’s no point in writing it unless you do something new with those

Which, yeah, I get his reasoning behind it. The only problem is that I’m doubting myself and my abilities because I’ve read a lot of scifi, but have I not read enough? I’ve read a lot of fantasy that uses clichés but I’ve also read a lot of fantasy that subverts these normal clichés? 

I just. I feel like there’s nothing I can think of to write that hasn’t already been written before, not only with these genres but. Everything in general. This self-doubt is why I nearly didn’t take this class in the first place and tbh I probably just need to build a bridge and get over it already
