Today I woke up without pain. Although I know it may be temporary, I can also appreciate this means that the hurt is temporary. Everything is temporary! Have I learned nothing from yoga?? But seriously, I am humbled by this teacher of injury, and have been surprised by what I've discovered. The amount to which I have withdrawn in the past week is baffling to me. And while I have been emotionally and mentally withdrawn, I've also been working myself to the bone. My broken body (feeling) has led to unhealthy habits BUT has given me much more empathy for my students with chronic pain and injuries. People ask me if I ever get nervous when teaching anymore, similar to people asking if I still ever get stage fright as an actor. The simple answer is no, I don't get nervous to perform, but I am TERRIFIED of auditions. And no, I don't get nervous to teach yoga classes, but I DO get butterflies before teaching somewhere new! Will they like me? Will my style be an ok fit? Will I be able to serve? Will they want something I can't give? So many questions! All I can do is share the little that I know the best that I can. I'm subbing two classes this week at Svasti Yoga in Bloomington, and I'd be happy to have some familiar faces join. Today at 11:30, and Wednesday at 6:30. It's a 90 minute practice with some extra meditation at the beginning and end. "Care. No Matter What." This is what is written when you walk in to the Planned Parenthood in Saint Paul, Minnesota. I thought about this as I left, bombarded by angry protesters. I thought about this while I got stuck in traffic. I thought about this on Earth Day as many marched to defend the importance of the sciences in health and government. We must show how we care and share in the responsibility of holding up these institutions and causes and beliefs. I'm a winner! 🏆No, seriously you guys, remember that contest I needed YOUR support for? We did it! I got second place in the Ripple Effect Contest by Manduka! 🥈 I have been on cloud nine since yesterday when they emailed me. ☁️ I thought about getting cute clothes with my prize, but instead I invested in more props so I can use them for my new Karma Yoga series "Sunday Service."
