Despite endless sleepless nights for designers and their various assistants leading up to London Fashion Week, there is always an infectious energy in the air that excites even the most exhausted and experienced fashion week attendees. It can be difficult to appreciate the heart and soul that goes into producing a collection and subsequent presentation. The day of a show plays out like a gradual crescendo, with the efforts of various creative teams having to achieve harmony alongside one another. As time ticks on and deadlines approach, a sort of organized chaos feeds the adrenaline of the crew who tap into their last reserves. As guests begin to arrive the energy changes from anticipatory to frantic, as last minute details are put into place. There is a sublime, fleeting moment when the team knows the show is about to start and everything feels still in a bustling room; lights are powered up, the music begins to play and the first model struts onto the runway. A whirlwind fifteen minutes later, a perfectly orchestrated, collective effort is met with applause and cheers. As fashion’s elite hurriedly file out to make it to their next show, a huge sigh of relief can be heard spreading throughout the crew, and everyone cracks that knowing smile, the one that says, in the end, although probably not to plan, everything went perfectly.

The Re Issue Project

There are few names in fashion more recognizable than that of Kate Moss. While the supermodel has starred in thousands of campaigns and fronted countless magazines, there are some particularly poignant images that serve as clear markers for her success throughout her career. Her participation in the 1992 Calvin Klein campaign with Mark Wahlberg undoubtedly serves as one such example.

It is difficult to view Lottie as an entity entirely separate to her iconic sister. Like Kate, Lottie has been tapped at the beginning of her career, capturing the same innocence and apparent vulnerability that made the original campaign so compelling. The sisters’ natural beauty as well as their ability to relax in front of the camera reflects an effortless cool about them that is very ‘Calvin Klein’ in its essence.

There are however some key contrasts between Kate’s campaign and her younger sister’s. While Kate was controversially underdressed, Lottie is much more covered. Kate has in recent years spoken out about the discomfort she experienced on set all those years ago, and the nudity has clearly been significantly downplayed in this reinterpretation, consequently the images are far less “sexualized”. Another noticeable difference is Lottie's solo appearance - the absence of a bad-boy Marky Mark equivalent - hopefully goes to show an increasing empowerment of the female model… If this campaign is anything to go by, we think this particular one is going to go a long way.
