Habit sat on the table flashing Brian’s smile at her, he’d been practising to get it right but sulked when he only received a cold glare from her. She broke eye contact wiping one of her eyes with a small sigh.
“Still thinking about what Brian said?” Habit asked in a kindly tone, only to have Kate snort.
“Thinking about what you did to make him say he didn’t love me.”
“I told you I didn’t make him say that. That was purely him.”
“I don’t believe you. I never will as I bet you can’t prove it.” Kate voie spat, Habit looked away a small smirk creeping on his face.
“Bet your life.”
“What?” Kate asked tilting her head slightly to the side.
“Bet your life, that I can’t prove it. I bet I can.” Habit slide of the table placing his hand on his heart. “We can do a test, we can make it rather interesting too.” Kate’s expression relaxed a little as she leaned back silently observing him. Habit beamed seeing the interest in her face. “I’m going to set up a small endurance test for you. If you can survive 20 minutes on it. I’ll leave you both for good. If not well I’m staying round. Now, I’m betting you won’t be able to last, and when you call out for it to stop we’ll leave Brian in charge of that. I’ll leave Brain, I’ll even go into my old body as proof of me being out of there, just for you. Now! If Brian cares for you he’ll stop the test when you call. If he doesn’t he’ll keep it going till the times up, not caring about what you feel.” Habit slowly paced before the table, waving his arms to emphasize his words. Kate listened closely, clicking her tongue she nodded.
“Sure, I’ll try, only to see if I do last the 20 minutes so I can rub it in your face.” her voice trailed at the end. Habit just smiled nodding with approval before laughing.
Brain was strapped by his legs and waste to a chair as Habit now back in his own body was adding the final preparations. Brian was feeling sick and dazy from being uninhabited as suddenly as he was.
“Brian, oh Brian do you want to know a secret?” Habit sang as he placed a strange yet comically large button on the table. Brian just rolled his eyes not wanting to waste his energy on speaking to the parasite - as he saw him. “Well since you asked sooo~ nicely. This button, we’re going to tell Kate that if you press it, it’ll turn off the power and end the test. What it’ll do, if make it 5 times more powerful. So. If you care for her, I suggest not touching that button.”
“Sick fuck….” Brian snarled looking at him with battered eyes. Habit laughed and pulled Hoodies gun from his belt pointing it at Brian’s temple.
“Oh I need to also state, that if you even hint at what that button’s true nature is. I’m not just going to shot you and her. Oh no. But when I’m done, you’ll won’t be able to beg for me to end it” Habits natural dark voice sent a shiver down Brian's spine, the book in his eyes dark and murderous. Brain swallowed nodding as he closed his eyes.
Kate sat in the chair in her tank top, her hoodie on the floor next to the chair as Habit strapped her wrist and ankles to it. She wasn’t watching what he was doing as she felt cold metal being twisted round her arms, her eyes were focused on Brain who was leaning his elbows on the table, his head buried in his hands.
“Right we are. all set!” Habit clapped happily almost dancing to where Brain was sat, causing the man to look up. “You both know the rules, 20 minutes and you're free. At any time you can ask Brian to stop the test. Got it?” The two nodded, Habit gave Brian a dark look before he pressed a switch. Kate let out a small gasp as an electric current shot through her body then stopped. As she panted to get her breath back another hit, slightly stronger making her body jerk to the side a little, it lasted about 10 second longer than the last. With a 5 second break; Brian counted in his head as he watch in horror as the current hit again, this time Kate let to a small scream, her body starting to jerk more violently. He felt sick, watching her reaction becoming worse, her screams soon turned his blood cold as the break has disappeared and it became as content increasing stream of power. Kate’s body was jerking and gyrating all over the place, her toes curling up. Where the metal supplying the current was burning her skin a bright red as it was burning away at it. She could hardly catch her breath and could feel her body starting to burn up.
“Brian… enough.” She called. Brian went to touch the button but withdrew his hands giving her a guilty expression. Kate let out a small sob, calling Brian's name again, and again pleading with him with whatever air she managed to gain. She was shouting, screaming his name stopping when she caught Brain pulled down his hoodie mask and flipped his hood up just as her vision was turning white from pain. Kate started to cry at what she was seeing, her screams for Brain were now just shrieks of pain till finally she called “HABIT HELP ME, ITS KILLING ME!”
“I got this.” Habit replied in a worried tone reaching for the button Hoodie grabbed his wrist yanking it away
“Stay away from that!” Brain snapped. Habit winked and pulled his arm free slamming it on the button. “NO!” Brain called out in horror only to see the power was cut, leaving kate limp in the chair crying manically with her toes curling tightly. Habit rushed over disconnecting everything from Kate, he almost admired the red raw skin on her arms. Kate was just staring at Brain crying uncontrollably, she was trying to speak but couldn’t
“You didn't make it, I’m sorry.”
“He. How… could ...he?” Kate managed to speak through her sobs, Habit pulled her from the chair and carefully lead her away, her arms clinging to him tightly. “He. He told you to stop! He told you not to touch the button… oh god! It was killing me Habit… he was… going to let me die?”
“I told you he didn’t care. He was just using us to get his freedom. But I’ve got you though…. I’ll look after you. I’m sorry I had to do that to you, but you had to see the truth” Habit kissed the top of her head as they left the room, he quickly looked over at Brian with a victorious, evil grin. Brain hadn’t moved since Habit at hit the button, his heart had stopped, he felt sick and faint form the fright of what he thought was going to happen. His eyes watched Kate leave with Habit, before breaking down in tears himself, cursing himself for believe Habit little lie.

Brian lied on his bed trying to daydream in peace, but an annoying hum kept echoing in his mind. Scrunching his face up he telepathically shouted at the entity he had become connected to shut up, only hear it laugh in return. “When I find you I'm going to punch you.” Brian spoke out loud, sitting up on the bed, pinching the bridge of his noise.
“Oh you masochist.” Habit joked. “You know that will hurt you too.”
“At the moment I don't care, you have been humming all day and I want some piece. Now where are you hiding?” Brian slide off the bed, he grabbed his hoodie from the chair and slipped it on, as it slide over his head he noticed the world had taken on a purple tint, his heart started to race.
“Closer than you think.” Habits spoke in a low cold tone.
