Misha's answers about Cas changed because before, if there were to be more Supernatural stories, it would have been under the C*w umbrella and, to Misha, having Cas be dead was a much better option than letting them mangle what Misha + others created, whereas now that it looks like his besties, the Ackles, have rights™️ to the Winchester brand, he's allowed himself the ability to see beyond death to an ending both he + the fans would be satisfied with because at least the people handling that journey care about him, us, and most importantly Cas.
