So the past few weeks I have been traveling for work, I went to Edison NJ (near New York) and Denver CO. I love exploring and experiencing new places, and the added benefit of traveling is realizing what I really love bout my city. Edison is not a metro area by any means, where I stayed was right near the warehouse district.
Best thing about north jersey? The bagels! You can’t find a bagel like that outside of the New York area. Even in Philly we don’t have any bagel shops that come close.
Worst thing about New Jersey? The jug handles. Apparently there is no such thing as a left hand turn in jersey, so to get to the store across the street you have to get on a highway, go two miles, exit and get on in the opposite direction just to come back. And repeat it to get back across. I understand a little more why New Jersey drivers have an embedded sense of frustration which makes the majority of them drive like a$$holes 😆
Denver was my next trip. This city is beautiful. So clean, so fresh, I don’t think I saw a single piece of gum trampled into the sidewalk. I was surprised how flat Denver was, I guess I was assuming it would be right up in the mountains, but they were just a nice backdrop to the city in the distance.
The city looks like it’s all new construction, I don’t think I could point out a building that was more than 15 years old. For me, that makes Denver a great place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there. I realized on this trip all that I appreciate about being in philly. We have grunge, but grunge comes with age and history. I have the benefit of living in one of the oldest cities in the country, there is so much to see every day, and each building and street tells its own stories. I think it would take me a lifetime to get tired of Philly. Denver I think I would be done with in a few months. I will tell you one thing, the homeless people are a lot friendlier in Denver. I think it’s cause they’re all high.
