It's actually a fairly brown cast, but Judah Ben-Hur is played by Jack Huston who is white and goyische as can be.

That’s good to hear at least. Because this is what Sheik Ilderim (played by Hugh Griffith) looked like in the original movie.

Quick correction about Jack Huston though, he has Ashkenazi and Persian/Mizrahi Jewish ancestry (I’m not sure if he identifies as Jewish, but if he does I’ll erase “ancestry” in a heartbeat) from his matrilineal grandmother. Much better than the Goyische McGentile, Charlton Heston playing a Jewish man from 1st century Judea.
