Jes Staley, the former CEO of Barclays, testified in a UK tribunal that he had no knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein's illicit activities, describing them as 'monstrous.' Staley admitted to maintaining a relationship with Epstein and referred to him as 'family' in communications, including an email where he called Epstein 'uncle Jeffrey' to his daughter.
Staley also acknowledged having consensual sex with an assistant of Epstein's at a New York apartment owned by Epstein's brother. The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is pursuing a ban on Staley, citing over 1,000 emails exchanged between them that highlight their close friendship.
The tribunal revealed that JPMorgan had ceased providing banking services to Staley due to regulatory scrutiny regarding his ties to Epstein. Staley's admissions have raised questions about his past conduct and the nature of his relationship with the disgraced financier.

Staley is latest high-profile figure to testify before House amid investigation into Epstein, convicted sex offender
"But over the last year, documents released by the US Department of Justice have renewed scrutiny of Staley’s ties to Epstein. They included files, reported by the Guardian, showing that justice department prosecutors had reviewed allegations of rape and serious bodily harm against a woman by Staley. There is no evidence that prosecutors decided to pursue the allegations. Staley has denied any wrongdoing and has never been charged with a crime related to the allegations.
Staley’s US lawyers were contacted for comment.
In remarks on Thursday afternoon, Representative Robert Garcia said that during the committee’s interview with Staley, the former Barclays boss claimed to lawmakers that he “had no real friendship with Epstein”, which Garcia dismissed and called “just ridiculous”."
