"i feel like it wasn't that long ago since the last dinner..." and while it might not have been in their timeline, they've certainly spent plenty of the in-between together. with the unspoken agreement to stay mostly out of public eye, este has been over at his place more and more frequently over the past few weeks, usually ending with the same activity in different flavors and colors. but this sort of deja vu isn't one that he's particularly keen on, especially having to play the part of a doting boyfriend to his girlfriend who pales in comparison to her younger sister. "sorry that you got an invite. are you ready? are you ever ready?"

"you're not dying," thankfully, because otherwise jesper would never live this down and would probably put himself in the ground beside her, "but i just — how did this even happen? because you didn't eat or drink enough this morning." it's not asked as a question, more so posed as a statement to drill it in her head that she's got to look out for herself. that yes, training and aiming for the top is important but what good is placing if she's landing herself in the hospital because of it?

"yeah... yeah. i know. see you soon." the nerves are palpable as he hangs up the phone to his parents, the end call screen staring back up at him as he stares down the clock. half an hour. half an hour and it'll be the first time he's seen his parents in years. half an hour and they'll be introduced to his fuck buddy turned 'girlfriend'. the knock on the door saves him from totally buckling at the knees and collapsing on the couch, almost excited that someone else will fill the space and keep him from spiraling. he's quick to answer and is relieved to see noah dressed rather well, certainly a stark difference in the large t-shirts she's often in when he stops by for a midnight cap. "hey, thanks for coming. they just called, will be here in about half an hour. dinner's already set on the table so now we just... have to wait. can i offer you a drink or something in the meantime?"

"okay, that's the last of what i needed to clean out of my car," jesper announces as he steps back into the kitchen briefly from his little clean up session in the garage. his car isn't going to fit much to begin with but just in case she's got more than either of them anticipated, no use in keeping his trunk full of tennis and workout equipment. "last chance to back out of any life-changing decisions."

qualifier matches up until now haven't been much of an issue but since he's just on the cusp of bumping up to the next rank group, the pressure to do well weighs heavier on his chest, his shoulders. even now, as he's well in the lead and staring at his opponent ready to serve, jesper knows it's not over until it's over. and then the crack of the tennis racquet to ball reaches his ears and he's already ready to swing back and return the serve smoothly, signaling the start of the last game to determine if he makes the final draw for the tournaments that will decide his tennis career for the next few years.

"hey. are you free?" his call to noah is abnormal, to say the least. usually prefers other methods when it came to booty calls. however, it's a random weeknight, he's nearly two bottles of wine in and he's thinking about fallon... and that's just never a great combination. his best friend has kids now too; it's not like he can call him up whenever he wants anymore. "if you're not, totally cool but if you are, can we meet somewhere? i don't really care where. or you can come to mine. it's messy right now but, you know, whatever."

"okay, when?" if anything, didn't that statement alone just prove his point? that she's so aggravated at jesper to the point of wanting to get back at him? another almond popped into his mouth, the male listens ever so careful amidst his chewing, the corners of his lips in a shit-eating smirk. "awww so you found a nice guy? you're gonna fucking eat him alive, noah. that guy's not gonna wanna go out with you again. or, well, maybe. you two did fuck on the first date — that says a lot." he totally ignores the statement about not everything being about him. he agrees. he wants this bit of conversation to be all about her.
