Code black we plug holes episode (1x02) overview
TRIVIA The nice little old lady ate: $3.80. Dr. Leighton (2nd to count ), on the board he writes 3.15 so he counted 0.65. Dr. Pineda (3rd to count ) with 2.65 (from 2.90) so she counted 0.25 all in nickels. Dr. Lorenson (5th to count ) with 0.75 (from ) 1.15 so she counted 0.30. Dr Hudson speaks at least some Spanish. QUOTES Jesse:" When it gets rough, make sure to breathe. Remember, oxygen is the first drug we give our patients. Same for you. Lean on each other. That's what siblings are for. Lean on me. That's what your mama's for." Dr. Tylor:" Oh, sorry, I forgot my salutation. How you doing? Now, why hasn't she been admitted yet?" Dr. Hudson:" Cause, uh, something's bothering me." Dr. Tylor:" Well, something's bothering me, too. Hemorrhoids. My ass is on fire. Do I get a bed in Trauma One for that? " Dr. Hudson:" I can't send the patient upstairs till I know what's wrong." Dr. Tylor:" Well, what is it that Dr. Rorish always says? We're the first 10 minutes.Well, this one is in minute 11. So let's ship her out." Dr. Tylor :" Looks like the slot machine's ready to start paying off." Dr. Hudson:" Oh, don't look.Gangrenous toe." Dr. Lorenson:" Gangrene is my jam." Dr. Hudson:" Is that so?" Dr. Tylor :" Did you know only 1% of all males can perform auto-fellatio? " Dr. Tylor :"She says she's got a turtle sticking its head out." Dr. Lorenson:" Excuse me? " Dr. Tylor :"She's got thumbelina in a headlock.Look, just get moving, blondie, or we're gonna have a mudslide in here." NOTES While I understand it is just a TV show and not every thing is real I think there is no excuse for lazy directing/writing. I can understand why they do not always put face masks while doing all kind of medical procedures, it will take away a lot of the show if the audiace does not understand who is talking and what they are saying, I call this creative freedom. But Jesse not wearing gloves sterile gloves while handling the instruments in the open chest procedure is just lazy writing, because it would not change the scene if he wore them. and Dr. Hudson listening to Dr. Lorenson talk while at the same time listening to a patient chest with a stereoscope, is impossible, he could have done other test instead like feeling for lymph nodes or checking his eyes. ALLUSIONS Jesse : "Or, as Mr.Miyagi said, "wax on, wax off."" Dr. Lorenson: "Who's Mr.Miyagi? Dr. Pineda :"The karate kid"? It's from the '80s." The Karate Kid is a 1984 American martial arts drama film directed by John G. Avildsen and written by Robert Mark Kamen, It is an underdog story in the mold of a previous success, Avildsen's 1976 film Rocky. It was a commercial success upon release. Jesse:" You ever see "An Officer and A Gentleman"? " Dr. Savetti:" What?" Jesse:" The movie "An Officer and A Gentleman"? " Dr. Savetti:" No." Jesse:" Richard Gere plays this guy named Mayonnaise." Dr. Savetti:" Mayonnaise?" Jesse:" Yeah, 'cause his last name is Mayo, and he's white. Now, Mayonnaise joins the Navy to fly jets. See, he's good at almost everything. Fastest runner, best fighter, smart, and fearless. Now, if the movie were just called "An Officer," he'd be just fine. But it's not. It's called "An Officer and A Gentleman," which means you have some things to learn." Dr. Savetti:" Like what?" Jesse:" Humility, patience, kindness, charity. You know, the big ones." Dr. Savetti:" You saying I'm Mayonnaise?" Jesse:"Well, you ain't Lou Gossett." An Officer and a Gentleman is a 1982 American romantic drama film that stars Richard Gere, Debra Winger and Louis Gossett, Jr.. It tells the story of Zack (Gere), a U.S. Navy Aviation Officer Candidate who is beginning his training at Aviation Officer Candidate School. Dr. Tylor :"Hey.Person." Dr. Lorenson:"Christa." Dr. Tylor :"Really? I'd have thought Susan." Might be an ester egg could refer to Dr susan from the 90's medical show "E.R." Dr. Pineda :"This is not a zebra. It's a plain old horse." Zebra is the American medical slang for arriving at an exotic medical diagnosis when a more commonplace explanation is more likely. It is shorthand for the aphorism coined in the late 1940s by Dr. Theodore Woodward, professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, who instructed his medical interns: "When you hear hoofbeats, think of horses not zebras" Recurring theme Dr:" but I heard what you said to that kid's father, and you were right. Hold onto the people we love, because you never know when they're gonna slip away." Christa sees how Leanne reacts to the patients and how important their lives are" Dr. Rorish:" Can you do it laparoscopically?" Dr. Hudson: "Laparoscope was my jam. Dr. Rorish:" Don't ask Taylor. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission." Dr. Hudson:" Hang on.Something in her isn't getting enough blood. Dr. Lorenson:" You heard Taylor. He's the director of the E.R." Dr. Hudson:" Yeah. And this is our patient." This is a recurring theme in the ER they do procedures before getting permission time after time and they do not always listen and obey their boss, the residents see this and later in the season imitate their teachers. Dr Rorish" Your instinct has to be sharper than your scalpel and faster than any machine. You ignore those instincts at your peril and theirs." You can understand this from Leanne almost every episode the fly by the sit of their pants, but in the future it also causes trouble Dr Lorenson :"we are in the same club. And this stuff matters to us. It matters." Explains to Leanne why she takes things so personal (which Leanne does as well at times) Relationships Malaya/ Angus even though they disagree and make mistakes you see they have a good friendship and do not hold a grudge in the end. Mario and everyone, In the beginning he is rude and not nice even to his colleagues especially when he jokes about Christa's age. He gets very angry at the hockey player and almost hits him that is until Jesse stops him. After the talk with Jesse you do see a bit of a change in attitude from him at least toward his patients Neal/Christa Neal is defiantly teasing Christa (and flirting) with the Gangrenous toe comment and it is funny to see Leanne's face in that scene. And then they continue with the teasing with the Laparoscope comment. You see how Christa does hit a cord with Neal, and its hard for him to say no, and you see how nerves she gets every time she goes to talk to him. My notes This is the first episode I saw since I was in the U.S. at the time and only afterwards did I see the first episode, I think this episode was better then the first less chaotic and not a serious as the fist one. After seeing the relationship between Neal and Christa in this episode I never thought there was a vibe between Neal and Rorish in the first episode .
