He’s a young man, well intentioned but little else. The sky was clouded, a dark haze with only streaks of sun on his path. He had found a corn field outside his town shortly after he started walking. He knew that soon there would be no more crops-permanently if the air didn’t clear. But he also knew corn had little nutritional value. It only ceased the pains in his stomach for awhile. The time it took to cook and eat it would help pass the countless nights, but corn didn’t do much else. He needed to find food, or vitamins if he intended on continuing a primarily corn diet. He was tired, his legs shaking and his knees buckling as he forced himself to take each step. Stopping here would not be a good idea. He was exposed here. Nowhere to hide and no strength to fight. As he glanced around in hopes of shelter he was amazed at his own resilience. That’s cocky, he thought and he chuckled a bit, not aloud but to himself. There was no else to hear his laughter even if he had made a noise.
