"No, no, no don't die on me!" Jessica called, voice breaking. (oh my heart 3)
He called her name, again and again, screams of others from the resort filling his ears. “Jess! Where the six are you? JESS!”
He rushed out of the hotel into the restaurant, his eyes darting back and forth as he saw daemon after daemon slowly start to appear.
He rushed further toward the end of the dock when he heard it. A soft whimper. It had to be her! Running down the stairs, toward the ferry would be waiting he stopped dead in his tracks, finding her held aloft by her throat, by some wine colored haired guy in a wacky looking coat.
“Hey! Asshole!” When they turned their head, their bright yellow eye meeting his, he went wide eyed, then steeled himself. “Let her go!”
“Ahh, and who might you be?” the stranger’s voice was cool, and refined, and it gave him the willies.
“Never you mind,” he watched him lower Jessica down, letting her feet touch the wood beneath her. “Let. Her. Go.”
The stranger turned, dragging Jessica with him, causing him to frown more, and clench his fists so hard his nails bit into his palms.
“And, Pray tell my dear, why I should let go of the thing that will start to break someone down for me?”
“Cause, she ain’t worth it to him what you’re thinkin’.”
The man paused, his eyes shifting from a golden yellow to more amber in color. “Oh? And how do you know this?”
“Cause, I sit in the quay and people watch all day. He doesn’t care ‘bout her like your thinkin’. Just, let her go.” he pleaded, his voice growing softer, though his hazel eyes met hers and he scowled back at the stranger. “She means more to me than him, so if you want to break someone, how bout you start with me, instead of her eh?”
The stranger chuckled, his grip on Jessica’s throat loosening enough that he could hear her take in a much needed, shaky breath. “Is that so…Well then.” He turned her on her feet, and shoved her hard in his direction. He moved forward, grabbing her arms and pulling her to him. His arms wrapped about her tightly, a hand resting at the back of her head he buried his nose in her hair.
He turned, guiding her to the stares as he lifted his eyes, keeping them locked on the stranger. “Doll. Listen.” He turned her gently, slowly letting her go. “Run, and don’t look back.”
“Dino! N-no! You have to–!”
He smiled, though he never took his eyes off the stranger. “Go, Doll. Find that behemoth and his group, bring him back here, I have a feeling they wanna see this guy.” when she hesitated, he turned to look at her, and gave her a bright smile. “Go on Doll, It’ll be alright. They should be headed back from the Caravan with all the commotion goin’ on.”
He watched her look at him then the one that held her throat. “Bring them back here, Doll.”
He smiled as he watched her turn and run off. “So, you gonna stick around, or are you gonna kill me here and now…?”
The stranger cooed almost. “Don’t be so hasty.”
“Tch, says the asshole that’s tryin’ to bring hell on earth.”
The stranger laughed then, his eyes turning yellow, his skin growing pale and blackness creeping across his features. “It’s already here, friend.”
He gasped as he felt a sharp pain in his chest, just below his heart. He felt something cool seep in as the warmth of his blood rushed outwards. Instinctively he moved his hand to grasp at what caused him pain, blinking down at the blade that was now through his chest. He gave off a surprised grunt as he saw it followed by a pained laugh.
“A-ah..heh.. *cough* You really are an asshole… aren’t you…?”
The stranger seemed to scowl, and slowly lifted him up off the ground with that blade, causing him to groan and gasp as he slid down it further, and closer to the stranger. His hand gripped at it tighter, when he heard Jessica scream his name.
He turned his head, his eyes falling on her and the others that were around her, Nocits and his group. “T-thank the .. six…nhhn…”
“Ah, There you are young prince. I hope you do realize, that his life, or the waste of it, is on you now?”
He gave off a grunt as his world shifted, and he was no longer impaled, but he felt himself crash into the tables in front of the prince and his group, and he was surprised he didn’t really feel the impact at all. He coughed, and shivered. When was it ever so cold in the Quay?
He felt someone move him, gently, as he coughed again, his back resting against something soft, his head cradled gently. He let his eyes flutter open, as he heard her talk.
“You stupid. Stupid….son of a–”
That caused him to laugh, then cough, wincing in pain as he felt like he was starting to drown. He slowly let his eyes flutter open to look up at her. He gave her a gentle tired smile.
“Y-yeah, well… c-can’t say.. I di-didn’t try… r-right, Doll?”
He coughed again, wheezing as he screwed his eyes shut. “Mmngh.. a-always wanted to.. be the .. hero…heh.”
He heard her whimper, and bend over him a bit. “No, no, no don’t die on me!” Jessica called to him, her voice breaking. He smiled a bit more as he felt her hands cup his face.
Trembling, he reached up slowly, and rested his hand upon her forearm, as he let out one, long, slow last breath.
“…a-at least…I…got to b-be your hero… “
