🐝 its lil weird but "blood eagle"
hmm… jesslenaryna for you my dear anon
Why does it have to keep happening on American soil? It’s the thought that jams into Jess’s brain after every match these days.
Cincinnati, New York, Miami, Indian Wells, and now she’s back in Miami again, losing any footholds she’d stupidly assumed she’d gained from some of those first set leads. Did she learn anything from them? She wasn’t sure. Lately, each time Jess had been met with gray-green eyes across the net, she’d falter. All of her knowledge whisked away in the early spring winds ruffling her tangerine colored kit.
It used to be Aryna chasing her down, snuffing out any flicker of hope she’d had, then casting her aside like a stale match. Now, it’s Elena, so easily slotting in the place Aryna had firmly established as her opponent, the obstacle stopping her from a trophy, or even getting close enough to catch her reflection in it. It's a little uncanny how well the role fits Elena, like she's stepping into Aryna's shadow perfectly.
It used to be fun with Aryna. At least, Miami had been. Wuhan was even better, even if the win was just a flash in the pan. It meant something, if only to her.
Now, it’s as though they’re just toying with her, re-opening the same wound and drawing blood, over, and over, and over. Five times in a row.
She’s easy prey.
the concept of elena being able to beat aryna in big finals and beat jess to get there. but still not being able to beat her in a tiebreaker. like jess did. 👀
in a way there is so much between jesslenaryna and fritzsincaraz… the world no 1 and the world no 2 and the third player who’s making ground but is still in the shadow of them both… the third player who WANTS to be the ghost between them now but isn’t yet despite their strengths… one player of the world no 1 or 2 being the cutoff point for the third player in draws… making quarters and semis but still not avenging the blood that was drawn in their first grand slam final appearances… even though the more difficult player for them at the moment seems to be the one they do reach, not even the one who beat them when they had so much hope in their heart that maybe something else could’ve happened that day… when everyone looks at what the world no 1 and 2 do and wonders why the third player is even there… even though they’ve proven that they deserve to at least be a ghost between them…………
AUUUUUUGH what do you MEAN jess pegula is playing the best tennis of her life at 32 and she’s making strides that almost make her earlier accomplishments look small but she can’t completely reap the rewards of it because elena is doing the same but choosing not to be sidelined anymore so she ends up taking out on jess first every time and then there’s aryna. just there. waiting for whoever’s next.
like WHAT IF i had something with you and everyone thought it would always be like this even though you beat me again and again and then some other player from your past reasserted themselves and did what i couldn’t and now you both are actual rivals. meanwhile that person has now made me their target and they beat me and stop me from meeting you again. and what if i have beaten you before but it doesn’t carry weight now because you’re so different now and i haven’t changed. and what if i’ve beaten your rival before too but that doesn’t matter either because all everyone wants to look at is what you do even though that used to be me competing with you. but no one seems to remember that. HAPPENED TO MY FRIENDS TAYLOR FRITZ AND JESS PEGULA!!!!!!
