"I am a fool–both a somebody and a nobody–who only knows how to fool."
"But I see a secret."
"No, my lady, too humble am I to keep quiet. To reveal a secret is to make many laugh. Indeed, so it would seem my mouth is too big for my heart."
"It seems too as if your mouth is bigger than your brain. I repeat once more: Who are you? This time I bequeath you with the knowledge that I am Queen and that my word is law."
"My Queen, so it is as you say, but the law is derived from the rule of your husband, and with no respect, your law is simply as it stands and nothing more. It is quite like me as without a joke a fool is naturally a fool; without her law our Queen is no more than a woman."
"What are you implying?"
"It is but a stand alone."
"Which means?"
"If without a joke I, the Royal Fool, am but a fool, it is still that I am a fool, as per it is my job. While without your husband you hold no law, you are still my Queen, and you are a woman, but the title of queen holds little to your birthed title. A title that means absolutely nothing compared to our true titles–such is a stand alone."
I haven't thought about my novel Jester in a very long time, but as I was reading some Shakespeare and was thinking about Feste, it reminded me of my jester. He's a witty mouth, a constant frown, and loves to degrade people just for the fun of it; mostly his beloved queen. Just some dialogue of what I thought they'd sound like.
