Intro to Jestonomy: Anatomy
[From the pages of an unnamed individual dated at early as 1,500 years ago.]
“The vast multiverse is full of strange and unusual species, all of different shapes and sizes, but the most intriguing of these species, and the topic of this paper, is on the elusive “Jesstar.” The Jesstar is a humanoid species with gray skin whose arms and tibia section of the leg are, in most observations, completely invisible; the species is also noted to have a long tail whose length averages between 4 and 6 feet, and whose thickness varies between individuals. They have a thumb on each hand, and between two to four fingers and toes on their hands and feet; these extremities are pointed at the tip and very sharp to the touch.”
“Their face is protected by a chitinous ‘mask’ that typically is split between two colors, one on the left side of the face and one on the right; sometimes the split may be between the upper and lower half of the face, there may be no split at all, or in even rarer cases the face will appear to have a stripped pattern. Heterochromia is a common trait once thought to be linked to how the facial colors were split. The top of the head will typically have a crown formed by brightly colored hair, fleshy growths, or cartilaginous features both along and behind the edge of the ‘mask’. Fleshy growths, known as stalks, are flexible to a degree and are often seen twitching or reacting to either emotional or auditory stimuli; these growths occasionally display incomplete dominance to the ability to grow hair, with stalk growth being dominant to hair growth. Due to the possibility of incomplete dominance, it is not uncommon for Jesstars to have fuzzy or hairy stalks, in both this case and the case of a Jesstar growing hair, they are also likely to grow hair along the neck, collarbone area, and end of the tail. It is currently unknown what activates the stalk/hair gene to suddenly switch from normal dominance to incomplete dominance. The cartilaginous growths of a Jesstar’s crown, known as spades, grow towards the front of the face, they are thin but unnaturally tough, leading to the idea that they were once used in specialized combat scenarios of flattery or dominance between other Jesstars.”
“The physical appearance of Jesstars is the most well-known and comprehensive piece of knowledge we have on this species. The reason for this is due to the elusive nature of the species following their unanimous disappearance from almost all worlds circa 5,000 years ago. Because of how little we truly know about the species, all further information in this written essay will be based on documented first-hand interactions and information following their wide-spread disappearance.”
