We can misunderstand the Bible when we don’t understand the two spirits involved. In the Hebrew text we find a spirit of separatism, when Yahweh called his people out of the world, to be separate from other nations. Jesus ushered in a new spirit which was inclusive. He spent his time with the sinners, going out to them. He sent his followers into the world, to live in it, living according to the patterns of the Kingdom not the world. It is important to accept we are to be in the world, not trying to separate ourselves from it. We need to realize that we are a Church without walls in order to live a hands on love with power, a love that surpasses all other loves the broken people of this world have ever known. Don’t just preach it, live it with your neighbours.
