*Evolution takes place from generation to generation, so at some point there must have been an animal we would not call a chicken that laid an egg which contained what we would call a chicken, therefore meaning that the egg, in fact, came first.

*Though if you would like to discuss the process of whether the egg's shell is formed before the embryonic chicken, one can also say that the egg is literally at least one half of what forms the creature, speaking not of the shelled form but of the cellular one, because it is a part of the fertilization process by which genes are diversified via mixing, only reinforcing the idea that the egg came first.
