“Curious Child”
Atlantic Goliath Grouper (Epinephelus itajara)
White Bank-Dry Rocks Reef (Wheeler’s Reef)
Key Largo, Florida
This is a very young Atlantic Goliath Grouper judging by its size (only about 200 pounds). When fully grown they weigh in at 800 pounds or more. A critically endangered species and, unfortunately, highly curious. This little guy came up to me with no fear. This is why many are caught or mistreated. I have not seen one on this reef section in several years.
Always give wildlife the distance and respect they deserve. Share the planet.
