JEZ_EBEL - the humbling chronicles of jez (EP)
the humbling chronicles of jez (EP) JEZ_EBEL Released: June 17th, 2022 / Playground Music Scandinavia AB
Released earlier this summer, “the humbling chronicles of jez" is an introspection of Isabelle Aimee Johannesen emancipation as a woman channeled through her artist identity JEZ_EBEL. A 5-track EP defined by its autumnal moods, the work in question is underlined by its soft, ephemeral fade of melodies over her smoky vocal tones. Opening the album is a track that clearly separates itself from the rest of the record. Album opener “ADHD” is fun and upbeat with rubbery synths and the incessant chatter of fussy conversations and the spit of quick, blabbering raps. Following tracks “Why Do You Believe in Love” and “I WANT YOU” are led by their sedating haze with lethargic pacing over frosty chimes, while “So Sick” follows a certain video game-anthemic to its fluttery Casio chirp. To close the album is the confessional track “Gooood Time”, its ghostly phantomesque filling with its sleepwalking romance and vocalized harmonies.

JEZ_EBEL - Blossom
JEZ_EBEL is the artist personified by Norway’s Isabelle Aimee Johannesen, a creative outlet where Johannesen found her platform often publishing unfinished tracks without a care of critical review or not. It’s this youthful optimism and playful naivete that propels the bedroom pop of Johannesen’s JEZ_EBEL, a curious blend of saturated Casio-chimes and breezy Bossa Nova grooves. Sharing title track “Blossom”, the lead-up single from her brief 5-track EP, JEZ_EBEL’s latest jostles over the blocky chirp of clunky synth where the charming glow from her timbred-warmth flows unimpededly over its sparse percussion. True to the ethos of JEZ_EBEL’s creation, Isabelle wrote track and EP “Blossom” as an expression of her femininity, free from the rigid definition imposed by her religious upbringing as she explains:
"I wanted JEZ_EBEL to be everything that Isabelle might not dare to be, say or even feel. It was born from an outlet and secession which what was previously expected of me both verbally and subconsciously. Of course at that time, I didn’t realize this. But I now recognize that it was also a stance I took creatively."
Seen below, it’s this joie-de-vivre seen and vivid sensuality seen in previous track “In Her Eyes” and raw, organic sound from the warm whites of track “You’ll Get Over It”, which precede “Blossom” and find their way on the breadth of her latest work:

JEZ_EBEL : IN HER EYES
Hailing from Norway, JEZ_EBEL is giving listeners a taste of her upcoming EP Blossom with new single “you’ll get over it”. This light song is just over 3 minutes long and it’ll have you swooning with its catchy lofi beats. With the soft strumming of the guitar, “you’ll get over it” reflects the distant rumination at the core of the lyrics. It’s a wonderful song about a woman knowing what she doesn’t want and (politely) stays firm on what she wants. JEZ_EBEL has an airiness to her vocals that dances lightly on the instrumentation giving the song such a dreamy pull.
