Hello! Big fan of remember enough for the both of us- hoping you will be pick it up again soon❤️ ! slight question for you. Which is a better venue for others to read your work do you think -tumblr or ao3 ? Dipping my toe into creative writing again posted a few ficlets on my page. Just curious! Thanks
Awww, thank you so much friend!! <3 I will definitely be picking Remember Enough up again, it’s not abandoned in the least (I actually have the document open on my desktop right now). Real life just kind of got in the way, so I had to put it on the back burner for a little while.
As far as reading platforms, I go Ao3 all the way. I post my stuff there, then post links on tumblr taking readers there for new chapters/fics. It has a great tagging system, bookmarks, you can subscribe to WIPs so you never miss an update, and the website is undeniably reliable. Plus there’s the ability to leave good sized comments, edit your work easily, and it’s easy for other people to find your work just based on tag searches and new works listings, thus opening your writing to a much larger audience than just your followers on tumblr. Also, AO3 allows you to track stats, such as how many people read your fic, how many kudos, comments, bookmarks and subscriptions you have, and lets you reply to comments very easily.
The problem with using tumblr as your sole platform is that the tagging system can be sketchy (what with the first 5/20 tags only able to be tracked, and sometimes not working at all, like they currently are on my blog), and it’s easy for readers to miss updates, because depending on how many followers you have, you won’t see every post from every blog you follow. Plus it can be easy to lose track of your own fics in the sea of posts on your blog.
Ao3 is just a nice, clean, organized platform, easy to read, easy to search, easy to customize, and good to both authors and readers. I definitely use tumblr to promote my work, post snippets, provide links to new chapters, and involve people in discussion of my WIPs, but not as my sole platform for sharing my fic.
Glad to see you’re writing, and I can’t wait to see some of your work!
