since i published by first chapter of my pedro x oc story, i thought it only fair i give you a glimpse into the personality and history of our girl, yaya.
born to cuban immigrants, yaritza is a successful costume designer for hit tv shows such as vikings and game of thrones.
born in miami in 1976, yaya was the middle child and only girl out of two boys, gabriel and enrique. as a teenager, yaritza attended the orange county school of arts to become a designer, despite her mothers wishes for her to pursue nursing or teaching. yaya’s mother came to america with her husband with the american dream, even going so far as to attempt to give her children american names.
yaya’s father disagreed greatly and insisted that their children stay true to their cuban heritage.
a fierce defender of her latino routes, yaya quickly identified with the chola culture in miami of the 80s and 90s, to this day, she still incorporates the style into her daily wardrobe, always opting for a good pair of hoop earrings.
a devoted fan of latina icon selena all her life, yaya still listens to her music religously to this day as well as other latino artists such as rapper kid frost.
yaya’s best friend throughout her sophomore and senior year of highschool was peter balmaceda who would later become more well known by the name pedro pascal.
after peter moved to new york the two slowly lost touch due to distance issues and haven’t seen each other in eighteen years.
by the time yaya has reached her early thirties, she is one of the most sought after costume designers for period and fantasy pieces, first becoming well known for her work on pirates of the carribean two and three, despite working as a stylist for shows such as buffy the vampire slayer and friends in the mid 90s.
she is now most known for her work on american horror story and game of thrones.
