@creepy-crazy-kooky-spooky - My blog for everything spooky. Stuff I consider Halloweeny and often my catch all blog for non-Japanese folklore. Expect lots of cryptids. (52 followers)

@cattypethesequel - My blog for everything else that I find interesting or funny. I made this blog to keep my main blog neat and focused on me. I also dump Pokemon screencaps here.(11 followers)

So while we’re on the subject of Tumblr, a lot of people have been talking about leaving Tumblr because of the site’s stricter censor bots. A lot of people have been proclaiming the site dead.

 As you can see I’ve already put down a lot of roots here on tumblr. I’ve even made a couple of twitter accounts so that my non-tumblr friends can follow them. (JigokuYeah for my posts from Jigoku Yeah, Gegege no Blog, and Kappa Parade and CCKookySpooky for Creepy Crazy Kooky Spooky.) I’ve also talked about using them to post artwork that I can collect into books on yokai and superstitions. So the idea that I might have to up and abandon everything is more than a little upsetting. But actually, things seem pretty okay so far. I haven’t had anything flagged yet and my follower count hasn’t gone down on any of my blogs. Course, I haven’t posted much since the 17th and it’s possible that a good chunk of my followers abandoned their tumblrs without deleting their account but... Well, I’ve predicated a lot of decisions in my life on the possibility of what MIGHT happen and it never turns out that great. Often times it just makes for a lot of pointless stress over nothing or missing out on experiences that would’ve been worth while. The threat of being shadow banned makes posting things is a little scary but just because something MIGHT happen doesn’t mean you should live in fear of it. So as long as there’s feasible platform and an audience I’m going to stay with tumblr as long as I can.

But the threat of losing tumblr has also made me realize how important it is to utilize my other platforms. Especially my portfolio site www.BrennaStones.com. I mean, I frickin pay for the hosting why am I NOT using it more? I need to get into the habit of posting more art there before posting anywhere else. It’ll be harder to build an audience but at least I don’t have to worry about management randomly changing the rules when I’m the management.

So to anyone who likes what I do and wants to see more, please follow my above tumblrs, twitters and personal site. And remember that you can submit your art to any of my tumblrs except Cattype and Cattype the Sequel. One of the reasons I made these blogs was to promote other artists! Just look at how many followers JY has! If you draw yokai that is a dedicated audience of yokai fans!

To @cattype It was two day ago. Sorry I’m late o.o I was supposed to say something nice, but my brain ran out of words so I drew a picture. I’m still investigating how to link it to the tumblr but Jigoku Yeah is now on Twitter! Follow it now for more yokai fun. You can even tweet to Toni the oni, the blog’s mascot or maybe Toni will tweet at you! 

I’ve never done this type of role play before so I’ll keep it up as long as it doesn’t get old... or annoying. So feel free to send him questions or your favorite yokai things.

Oh, BTW here’s a tip, there’s a thing on Twitter called #FolkloreThursday where folklorists and folklore enthusiast tweet tidbits and articles about folklore every Thursday. So you might wanna check that tag out too.

Also, I’m trying to queue up a bunch of yokai trivia tweets and I could use a few ideas. Any suggestions? Also also, are there any tweet scheduling apps that let you schedule threads? I made a spur of the moment thread about Jomon Tunnel and human pillars and I realized Twitter could be a good place for short kaidan.

Well, I think I’m just gonna give up on tagging my posts here. There’s too much awesome yokai art on tumblr that I’ve resisted posting just because I couldn’t identify every single yokai in it. 

The reason I kept doing it for so long though is because I’ve always hoped this blog could serve as a useful resource for anyone looking for research or references for yokai. The idea was that if someone wanted to draw, for example, Nurarihyon they could come to this blog, type “nurarihyon” into the search bar, and get a bunch of artwork and information on nurarihyon. Unfortunately, I have no idea if people use this blog that way at all so I just feel like I’m hindering myself for nothing. But if you do use this blog like that go ahead and tell me... with words... not the like button... I’ve brought this question up in the past and I got a bunch likes and no responses... I didn’t like that.... I’m very cranky right now....

There’s a lot of videos on yokai that I could post to @jigokuyeah​ with a lot of mistakes that I want to point out but I’m worried people won’t like me being pedantic. But I’d argue that pointing out small errors in things can be used as a springboard to teach more about yokai and Japanese culture, which is part of what JY is about.

For example, I’m preparing to post a video of a guy’s telling of The Goblin of Adachigahara and he uses parts of an illustration from Japanese Fairy Tales by Yei Theodora Ozaki for some animation. The problem is the version he’s telling is based on a noh play featuring two yamabushi while Ozaki’s version only features one buddhist monk. If it point that out I can tie it back to yokai by saying “followers of this blog will recognize the the yamabushi’s outfit as the same one tengu wear” or something like that. Maybe even work in an excuse to link to my list of free yokai books with with the reeeally old picture of Toni the oni. Holy crap he looks so different now.

Gee, now that I type this out it seems pretty stupid. At least in this case anyway. Since the guy’s telling of Adachigahara is only a little segment of a video about Throne of Blood, it’d probably be too distracting for a primarily american audience to have the main characters dressed as yamabushi since their outfits are pretty silly looking, with the puff balls and the shorts and everything. Meanwhile I’ve seen top five videos of yokai that mix up the illustrations of yokai they’re talking about. Those videos drive me nuts to varying degrees. Then again, pointing out the mistakes in those videos would just be a list of mistakes. It wouldn’t even be as interesting as talking about yamabushi. 

Hoy boy, I’m tired. I really should be in bed. I just wanted to throw this out there to get some opinions. How do you feel about padanticism? Do you think it can be a fun conversation starter or do you find it annoying? Would it be any better if I saved the pedanticism for a reblog?
