I feel like jily would see reader and both be like oh fuck and then decide to just adopt/bring them into the relationship. Like they sit by reader at meals, James butters both lily’s toast and readers, lily sits on the couch by reader in the common room and puts her head in their lap while snatching their essay out of their hand to proofread while James sits on the floor and lily mindlessly plays with his hair, they save reader a seat at the three broomsticks on hogsmeade days. And poor reader just thinks they’re friends, or maybe they decided they need a kid since they act so married/mom and dad. And one day Lily or James is like yea my partners and reader is like uh as in plural? And both James and Lily whip their heads around and are like yea moron us three???? What did you think was happening???
Thanks for requesting!

All three occupants of the table light up when you and Remus enter the Three Broomsticks.
“Move,” Lily tells Sirius promptly.
He scoffs, but happily vacates his seat next to James in favor of one on the other side of the table, where Remus can sit next to him. “Fuck off, Evans.”
James slides out of his chair and into the next. “Saved you a seat,” he says, smiling that megawatt smile that jellies your legs. He pulls out the newly empty chair between himself and Lily.
“Oh.” You falter only a moment at the fact that they’re not sitting together before taking it. “Thanks.”
“Is this new?” Lily touches the pompom of your hat. It’s the faintest brush of her fingers, and yet your face heats like a struck match. Her eyes find yours, fond. “You look very cute.”
“Thanks,” you say again, quieter.
She smiles. “What kept you two?”
“Transmutation paper,” Remus answers for you, collapsing into the chair next to Sirius’. Your lips tug fondly as you watch how Sirius curls into his side, Remus’ arm coming around the other boy’s shoulders almost unthinkingly. “Our professor’s got his pants in a twist about structure. Wants us to hit every point of the rubric in order.”
“Tyrant,” Sirius decides immediately.
“Same one who gave us a paper due during reading week, too.”
“Knew I hated him. We should spell his shoes into tar.”
“Do you want me to read it over for you?” Lily offers, while Remus and Sirius sidebar about how a shoe-to-tar spell might be achieved. “I can compare with the rubric if you’d like a fresh set of eyes.”
“You don’t have to,” you try, but Lily waves you off, beckoning for it.
“While you do that,” says James, standing, “I’ll go get drinks. Moony, what’ll you have?”
“Whiskey sour, please,” Remus replies. He’s taking out his own essay, newly paranoid that he’s missed a point.
“Yuck. And you want a cider, angel?”
You assume for a moment that James must mean Lily, but she already has a drink. He’s looking at you. You didn’t realize he knew your usual order.
“Yes, please,” you say.
James goes to the bar, while Lily leans closer to praise you for an apt transition between your thesis and first argument. Her shoulder bumps into yours, a warmth you can feel through the layers separating you. It’s innocuous. But you wonder if Lily would be so comfortable around you if she knew of your giant, shameful crush on both her and her boyfriend.
It’s hardly your first forbidden crush (you carried a torch for Remus for months after he and Sirius got together) but it’s definitely new for you to have a crush on two people who are in a relationship together. Because fate likes to laugh at you, James and Lily decided they’d like to be your closest friends right around the time you started having feelings for them both. You feel a bit accomplished for having gone undetected for so long. Lily is smart; you thought she’d clock your puppy eyes within a week of getting to know you better, but so far nothing has seemed to deter the couple from wanting to spend more time with you.
“This is good,” Lily says, still skimming the end of your paper. “I can’t imagine what your professor could fault you for. You’ve laid everything out perfectly.”
“Ooh, high praise,” James teases, setting down your cider in front of you. A short glass has appeared in front of Remus. James lays his arm across the back of your chair casually. “Give her a break from school, love.”
“Wait.” Remus sends Lily a sheepish look. “Will you read mine?”
James laughs. “I think both of my girls deserve a break.”
“Hear hear!” Sirius lifts his glass, while the words my girls are still echoing around in your head like a song that sticks. “Speaking of, Prongs, do you want to do something off-campus on Friday?”
“Not this Friday,” James replies unhesitatingly. “We have a date.”
You turn to him, a bit wounded. “This Friday?”
James’ eyebrows raise. “Yeah. Did you forget?”
“I just…I thought we were going to the cinema on Friday.”
“That’s what I meant.” He squeezes your shoulder, giving you a bemused smile. “So like I was telling Pads, we have plans Friday.”
“Oh, sorry.” You feel silly. “The word ‘date’ threw me.”
Lily looks up then, her brows bunched to James’ raised.
“...Why would that be?” James asks.
“Because…” you say slowly, hoping one of them will finish for you. When they don’t, you flounder. “Well, is it a date?”
“Of course it is,” James replies.
You reel.
“Oh, lovely.” Lily sounds a strange mix of fond and empathetic. “Did you not know we were asking you on a date? What do you think the other night at our apartment was?”
“Studying,” you say tightly.
James nods. “A study date.”
“Right, but—when you called it that, I didn’t take it for—you know, anything. Remus and I have study dates all the time.”
“You what?” Sirius rounds on his boyfriend, who is doing his best to appear as though he isn’t listening.
“What did you think was happening between us?” Lily asks you.
You look at her helplessly. “Friendship?” With the added flavor of one-sided, hopeless pining.
“Godric.” James runs a hand through his hair. When he breathes out, his lips twitch; it’s like he’s incurable. “Well, would you want to date? Since apparently we haven’t started yet.”
“How many dates do you think we’ve had?”
“Four, love.”
“Five,” Lily corrects him. “You’re forgetting the pond.”
“Right. Five.”
You gawp at them, replaying every hour you’ve spent alone together in your head. It did feel strange that they kept inviting you along to things. But you only thought you were their very special third wheel.
“I’d like to be on a date,” you say.
James’ grin splits his face, and Lily laughs breathlessly. “Great,” she says. “We can consider this our first.”

note: this is so rushed and barely counts as body worship and is coming out so late im sorry! also not sure if im happy with my characterization of lily here agh. lmk what u think?
“Oh, you can’t leave yet!” Lily says, her emerald eyes piercing into yours. She places a warm hand on your knee under the table, her thumb absentmindedly caressing your smooth skin.
You tear your eyes away from Lily to look at the large grandfather clock in the corner of the couple’s dining room. It’s late. Much later than you ever intended to stay.
Tonight, the Potters hosted their monthly dinner party, which you always love attending. Not only is James an incredible cook, and Lily a spectacular baker, but you also love having the chance to catch up with all your old friends from your school days. Friends, who have all already said their goodbyes tonight, leaving you alone with the couple.
“It’s getting pretty late,” you say, chewing the inside of your cheek. You’re worried about overstaying your welcome, even as one of your hosts is telling you to stay.
It’s a silly notion, really. Because you’re invited here often. James and Lily were some of your closest friends back at Hogwarts, and continue to be years later. In fact, you find time to see each other multiple times a week. Sometimes with others, like Sirius, Remus, and Peter. Sometimes—a lot of the times—it’s just the three of you.
Even so, you tend to get this anxious pit in your stomach. You worry that you’re overstepping. They’re a couple, after all, and you don’t want to impede on their alone time. No matter how many times they’ve proven that they adore your company, this worry always creeps in after a day spent with them.
“At least help us finish the last bottle before you go,” James speaks up. He reaches across the table to take your empty glass, bringing it to the mouth of the nearly full bottle. He pauses to peer at you over the rim of his glasses, “You will, won’t you?”
He shoots you that award-winning smile that used to get him out of all sorts of trouble back in your Hogwarts days—and had all the girls swooning over him, you included, not that you’ve ever admitted that out loud before.
“Sure,” you find yourself saying. “I can stay for another glass.”
Lily pats your knee once before removing her hand. “Excellent,” she cheers, shooting you a bright smile of her own (one that also used to make you swoon). “Why don’t we move somewhere more comfortable, then? The sofa?” she suggests.
“Great idea, Lils,” James replies before you even have the chance, lifting his and your generously filled glasses of wine to bring with you.
“Okay,” you agree, standing as Lily loops her arm with yours to guide you to their sitting room, where she pulls you onto the sofa with her. You’re sitting so close that your thighs aren’t just touching, you’re practically on top of her. Before you can put some space between you, James takes a seat on your other side.
You find it a little odd that they choose to sit on either side of you, instead of next to each other, but you don’t dwell on it. You take a sip from your glass when James hands it to you, hoping the bit of wine will help calm the sudden wave of nerves you can’t explain.
“Y/n, I think I remember you trying to tell a story earlier and Sirius cut you off,” Lily says with a tired eye roll that hints at her exasperation towards Sirius’s typical lack of awareness. “What was it you were saying again?”
“Oh, right—”
You jump back into the story you were telling about something that happened at work. You stammer over your words when James stretches his arm over the back of the sofa to place a hand on the back of Lily’s neck. A heat rises to your cheeks at the way his arm also brushes your back, but you’re sure it must not be intentional.
James and Lily laugh, and smile, and nod their heads in all the right places as you tell your story, even though you feel like you’re butchering it. Their unwavering attention is starting to make your heart race and your palms sweaty. Afraid you’ll drop it, you place the wine glass on the coffee table. You rush to finish talking, hoping that now that you’re done, some of the attention will shift off of you.
It doesn’t make any sense. You’re not usually nervous around them, not like this. But there’s almost something different about the way they look at you tonight.
“Oh, I’ve been meaning to tell you!” Lily’s eyes light up at her sudden thought. “I just adore your skirt. It looks really pretty on you.”
You didn’t think you could get any warmer. In fact, you’re afraid you might break out into a sweat as you thank Lily for the compliment.
“I mean, everything looks pretty on you,” Lily continues. “Don’t you think so, James?” she asks, eyes flicking over to her husband, whose eyes are fixed on your skirt.
“Lily’s right.” James’s gaze slowly trails up your body. “It looks incredible on you.”
“Th-thank you,” you say again, your voice a bit smaller. You’re starting to think the wine is getting to them.
“Oh! Do you know what else would look so good on you?” Lily asks, pulling your attention back to her.
“What?”
Lily smirks, a manicured hand running down the material fanned over her thighs. “My dress!”
James adds, “And I bet her skirt would look just as pretty on you, Lils.”
Lily gasps as if getting an idea. “We should switch!”
Your eyebrows shoot up at the suggestion, and the way Lily takes your hands in hers, squeezing as she pleads with you.
“It’ll be fun! I know my dress will look amazing on you, and I am just dying to try on that skirt. What do you say?”
You blink. Before you can think of what to say, Lily is already standing, tugging you up with her, and whisking you off to the bedroom.
Their bedroom is cozy, decorated with warm shades of red. Lily shuts the door behind you and walks over to the vanity. You notice pictures tucked into the frame of the vanity’s mirror. Some of just the couple, some with friends. You’re in a lot of them.
Lily sweeps her hair over her shoulder. “Can you unzip me?” she asks, making eye contact with you through the large mirror.
Your heart pounds in your chest. Lily can sense your hesitation.
“Oh, come on. We used to share a dorm,” she says, as if things haven’t changed since then. As if swapping outfits with your married best friend is as normal as getting dressed in the dorm room you used to share.
One thing is still the same, though. Lily can still convince you to do just about anything.
“Right,” you mumble, stepping forward and slowly tugging the zipper down the length of her back, exposing the smooth skin underneath.
Lily lets the dress fall, the fabric pooling at her ankles. You look to the ceiling, trying not to stare, no matter how good she looks in her matching lingerie. Especially when she bends down, right in front of you, to collect the dress into her arms.
“Your turn,” she says, turning around to face you.
You gulp. Slowly, you turn around, choosing to face the wall as you undress.
“So modest,” Lily giggles as you pull your top over your head.
Soon, you’re both standing there in nothing but your underwear. Your face feels warm, and a part of you is embarrassed that your bra and panties are so plain compared to her lacy number. Especially when you catch her staring, but you convince yourself you must’ve imagined it as she passes you her dress.
When Lily finishes dressing in your outfit, she gives you a twirl. She looks beautiful in your clothes, better than you think you looked in them. Lily voices the same opinion about her dress on you.
“I might just have to let you keep it,” she says, eyeing you up and down.
“Don’t be silly,” you murmur, nervously fidgeting with the material of her dress.
Lily tilts her head. “There’s just one problem.”
“W-what?”
She steps closer, into your personal space, and hooks a finger under the strap of your bra.
“I think you’ll have to take this off.”
You choke on your own spit. “What? Wh-why?” you stammer.
“It’s peeking through the neckline,” she shrugs, ever so casual about asking her friend to take off her bra as eyes dart down to said friend’s chest.
Your gaze follows, and you realize that your bra is indeed visible under the dress, which has a neckline much lower than your previous outfit—and most of the outfits in your closet.
“Oh.”
You let Lily convince you to lose the bra, discarding it somewhere on her and James’s bedroom floor.
“Perfect!” she cheers. She takes your hand in hers again. “Let’s go show James!”
In front of James, you feel exposed. The fabric of the dress covers you, but only just so. And the material suddenly feels too thin. You fight the urge to cross your arms over your chest as James’s gaze falls on your chest, evidently noticing your lack of undergarments.
“You both look absolutely stunning,” James says, voice low as his eyes rake over both of your bodies in a way that makes you squirm.
Lily puts her hands on your waist, and a shiver runs down your spine. She steers you closer to James.
“Go on, give him a twirl,” she says playfully. So, laughing nervously, you do. And you nearly spin right into his lap.
“Whoa, there.” His hands shoot out to steady you by your hips. His legs are already spread wide, as if ready to accommodate you, as you find your balance between them.
“S-sorry,” you mumble, hoping he can’t hear your heart pounding the way you can.
“For what, love?” he asks, squeezing your hips.
The hair on the back of your neck stands up as you feel Lily settle in behind you, placing one hand over top of James’s as the other runs up and down your arm.
“For being too pretty, maybe,” she murmurs. You can feel her warm breath on the back of your neck.
“What are you…?”
“Oh, come on,” Lily sighs impatiently. “Are you gonna make us spell it out for you?” she asks, pushing the strap of the dress off your shoulder. She leans her cheek on the exposed space, batting her long eyelashes at you.
“Haven’t we been?” James laughs. One of his hands slides down to your thigh.
Maybe it isn’t the wine. Maybe it’s not your imagination either. You’ve known it, really—at least your body has. Every nervous laugh, every flicker of heat low in your stomach has been trying to tell you.
James smirks. He can see it on your face when it all clicks. He whispers your name in a low, velvety voice. His hand slowly creeps up the outside of your thigh, dipping just below the hemline of your dress. “Don’t tell me you don’t want us, too.”
You don’t say anything for a while, because your instinct is to tell them you don’t want this. They’re your friends. They’re married. But saying you don’t want this would be a lie.
“I don’t know if this is a good idea,” you murmur instead.
“Why not, baby?” Lily asks. Your heart gives a helpless flutter at the pet name, and stops altogether when you feel Lily’s lips ghost over your neck.
You stammer, trying to respond, but suddenly you can’t remember what you were going to say.
“Does it feel like a bad idea?” she asks. She presses a kiss right over your pulse point. “Or does it feel good?”
James sees the warring emotions swimming around your irises, conflict tangled with desire. He feels a smug satisfaction as Lily’s charm unravels you, and he feels his pants become a fraction tighter as he watches his wife seduce you.
Lily presses her lips firmly against your sweet skin, sucking a faint bruise there. “Does this feel good?” she whispers, blowing cold air onto the spot.
“Does this?” James asks, grin widening as his hand drifts from your thigh to your bum with shameless confidence, delivering a playful squeeze.
“Y-yes,” you choke out, unable to deny them—or yourself—any longer.
Lily nips at your earlobe. “We’ve always liked you, you know? Always thought you were so cute. So lovely.”
“You’re so special to us, sweetheart. Let us show you how much,” James says, gently kneading the plush flesh beneath his palm.
“Don’t you want that?” Lily murmurs, lips trailing a path along your jaw now.
“I do,” you say, too quickly, too eagerly. James and Lily share a triumphant look, and then they’re on you.
Lily turns your head and connects her lips with yours. James growls at the sight as his hands make quick work of the dress, slipping it over your head with Lily’s help. You gasp into Lily’s mouth as your tits are exposed to the cold air of the room, but it’s James’s mouth on them that makes you shiver.
You gasp, breaking the kiss to look down at him, to find him already looking at you as he sucks your hardened nipple between his lips.
“You really are so pretty,” Lily murmurs, her voice a mix of awe and affection. She trails kisses along your shoulder, over the back of your neck, down your spine. Showing you just how much she adores you with every kiss. Her lips are warm and soft, and everywhere they touch, heat blooms beneath your skin.
“Beautiful,” James concurs, giving you the same treatment. “Perfect.”
He nips at and runs his tongue over every inch of skin he can reach, lavishing your perfect tits in attention and kissing all the way down to your navel while his hands explore everywhere else with a reverent touch. Your hips, your ass, the back of your thighs.
You mewl at all the attention. You’ve been pretending that you didn’t crave this, but now that you have them—treating your body like something sacred—you don’t just sink into the feeling, you revel in it.
James hooks his fingers in the waistband of your panties.
“Can James take those off you, baby?” Lily asks, and you nod without a second thought.
James slides your panties down your legs, revealing your puffy cunt, lips glistening with your slick. “So fucking pretty,” James groans. His hands cup your thighs, thumbs dipping to play with your folds. You gasp, cheeks heating up, as he tugs on your lips and spreads you open.
Lily moves around your body to have a look too, a low noise of approval rumbling in her throat as she watches James ghost the pad of his thumb over your clit.
A whine slips past your lips at the teasing touch, and the embarrassment curling in your gut. You’re completely bare for them to feast their eyes on, for them to touch, and they haven’t even shed a sock.
“Relax, baby,” Lily says, taking your hand and pressing a firm kiss over your knuckles. “You’re perfect.”
The sweetness of Lily’s voice manages to soothe some of your nerves, and you manage a small smile as she leans closer to place a reassuring kiss on your lips.
“Go on and switch with James, yeah?” she says.
James stands from the sofa, letting you take his seat. But instead of standing between your legs like you were, he kneels.
“Can I taste you, sweetheart?” he asks, spreading your thighs with his large hands, already trailing kisses up your leg.
“Yes, please,” you breathe, the sound trembling with your desire.
James doesn’t waste any time, licking a slow stripe up your slit as soon as you say the word. He groans in pleasure at your sweet taste and buries his tongue between your folds, flattening the wet muscle against your clit.
You whine, arching your back off the sofa as his gentle licks slowly become rougher, more desperate.
Lily sits at your side, leaning into you to continue sucking pretty bruises onto the curve of your neck. One of her delicate hands cradles the back of your head, massaging your scalp. The other plays with your tits, pinching and tweaking at your nipples. Breathy moans spill from your lips at their every touch.
They work you to the edge embarrassingly fast. But just when your whines reach that shrill, frantic pitch, and your legs begin to tremble around James’s head, they both pull away.
You whine in protest at their denial, looking between them helplessly, your lip quivering pathetically.
“Shh, not yet, baby,” Lily coos, almost patronizingly. It makes you squirm. “Don’t you want to make us feel good too?”
Your expression changes, your features smoothing over, and you nod eagerly.
James stands between your legs, leaning over you to finally connect your lips in a sloppy kiss. He moans into it. You can taste yourself on his tongue as he slides it into your mouth.
When James pulls away, you see that Lily has moved to lie back against the armrest of the sofa, wearing nothing but your skirt, her middle finger swirling over her clit as she watches you and James kiss. The sight alone pulls a moan from your throat, and you don’t hesitate when James nudges you to crawl between her thighs.
“Go on. Show Lily how good you can make her feel, just like I showed you,” he instructs, smoothing a hand over the curve of your ass as he kneels behind you.
Lily removes her hand from between her legs, watching you intently as she sucks her own slick off her finger.
You dive in eagerly, pleasuring her with fast flicks of your tongue over her clit. Lily gasps sharply, throwing her head back over the armrest.
James chuckles behind you, running a hand through your hair. “Easy, sweetheart. She likes it when you start a little slow. We’re not in any rush, yeah?”
You take James’s guidance, slowing down. You try to match how James worked his mouth over you before, the slow build from gentle to feverish. Lily rewards your efforts with high-pitched whines.
“Fuck, baby, just like that,” she moans.
You feel James’s hand between your legs, his fingers running up and down your folds before he plunges one into your welcoming hole. His patience is running thin, and he soon replaces his fingers with his cock after lazing pushing his trousers halfway down his thighs.
He nudges your entrance with his leaky tip, and you eagerly push your hips back against him. Granting permission. James doesn’t need to be told twice, and he slowly pushes into you.
Your mouth falls open with a moan as he bottoms out. He’s bigger than you expected, and your walls burn at the stretch.
With a hand on the back of your head, Lily quickly pushes your mouth back on her, distracting you from the dull pain as James slowly begins to move.
As James picks up the pace and power of his thrusts, your hand climbs Lily’s thigh. You push a finger into her dripping hole, then a second, curling them inside of her. She cries out your name in pleasure, and you swear you’ve never heard anything more lovely in your life.
James grunts behind you with every thrust. He wraps his arm around your waist and finds your clit with his fingers. You moan into Lily’s pussy as he rubs fast circles over the swollen bud, and the vibrations from the noise make Lily cry out again.
“Just like that, baby. Don’t stop,” she squeals. You wouldn’t dream of stopping now, not when she’s desperately rocking her hips against your face as you work her closer and closer to her climax.
Lily cums with a loud moan, a gush of her juices spraying from her sensitive cunt, soaking your face and the sofa. Her arousal drops down your chin as you lick up every last drop you can.
“Fuck,” James moans, his voice trembling as he watches the obscene display over your head. “Gonna fucking cum.”
“You’ll let James cum inside you. Won’t you, baby?” Lily asks, every word breathless and heavy on her tongue, spent from the orgasm you gave her.
“Yes,” you whimper, leaning your cheek against Lily’s thigh. “James, please,” you say, on the brink of an orgasm of your own.
James leans over you, his front pressed against your back. A deep groan leaves his throat, reverberating against your skin where he buries his face into your shoulder. Hot spurts of cum paint your inner walls as they contract, your own orgasm ripping through you in tandem. You cry out, one hand gripping Lily’s thigh with bruising force.
“That’s it,” she coos, running her fingers through your hair. “So pretty when you cum, baby. So beautiful. You did so good for us.”
James presses a few chaste kisses to the sweat-sheened skin of your back as he pulls out. You feel his cum dripping down your thigh. James sees it, cursing under his breath as his creamy release leaks from your hole.
Lily rests a hand on your cheek. Your eyelids are heavy, and you gaze up at her between slow blinks. She runs her thumb over your swollen lip, admiring how worn out you look.
“You’ll stay the night, won’t you?” she murmurs.
“Of course,” you agree without a second thought.
You spend the night in their warm bed, cocooned in soft blankets, tangled between James and Lily. Their arms curl around your body, holding you close, and you’ve never felt more at home. Just before drifting off, a fleeting worry crosses your mind about how this night might change things between the three of you.
It does change things, but there was no reason to worry, because you wouldn’t trade what you’ve gained for the world.

The morning light filtered through the large windows of James’s bedroom, the soft warmth of the sun brushing against your skin. Normally, this room was filled with life- James’s laughter, Sirius’s sarcastic remarks, Lily’s quick wit, and Remus’s calm steadiness. But today, it was just you, cocooned in the comforting scent of them, sinking deeper into the bed that had become your refuge.
James’s Quidditch jersey was bunched in your hands, the fabric soft from years of wear. You’d slipped it on at some point last night, the oversized garment brushing against your thighs as you curled tighter beneath the blanket. Lily’s pillow was tucked under your head, her faint floral scent surrounding you.
You knew you should get up. But the thought of facing anything beyond these four walls was suffocating. You had already overstayed your welcome- you should be at Hogwarts. In class. The winter hadn't even ended yet and you caved in on yourself.
The door creaked open, and James peeked his head inside, his messy hair sticking up at odd angles. He was always the first to notice when something was off, his intuition as sharp as his loyalty was- unwavering.
“Hey, love,” He said softly, stepping into the room. He sat on the edge of the bed, careful not to disturb your cocoon of blankets. “You’ve been in here all morning. Feeling stuck?”
You nodded faintly, burying your face deeper into Lily’s pillow.
James gave a heartbroken coo, his hand reaching out to smooth your hair. James's hand lingered in your hair, his fingers carding through the strands as if it might untangle the weight pressing down on you. He tilted his head, a soft, lopsided smile curling his lips despite the crease of worry in his brow.
“My little brave fox,” he murmured, the nickname rolling off his tongue like a secret he was sharing just with you. “You’ve got no idea how much I love you, do you?”
You didn’t reply, but your fingers tightened slightly on the jersey bunched in your hands. James’s eyes caught the movement, his chest aching at the sight of you clinging so tightly to anything that might bring you comfort. And it was a piece of him.
“I should really shower,” he said, his voice low, almost to himself. “I’m a right mess after that run.”
But he made no move to get up. Instead, he leaned down closer, brushing a kiss against your temple, his lips lingering there as he exhaled. “You’re going to be the death of me, you know that?” He murmured, his voice filled with a mix of tenderness and awe.
Finally, he forced himself to pull back, though his eyes stayed locked on you. “All right,” He said, his voice soft and coaxing. “Here’s the deal: I’ll go shower, so I don’t stink up the place, and then I’m coming right back here to hold you until you’re ready to take on the world- or until Sirius bursts in and tries to steal you away. Sound good?”
Your nod was barely a movement, but it was enough to make his heart clench painfully.
“Good,” He said, a grin breaking through despite the worry etched into his features. “Don’t go anywhere, yeah? Not that you’d want to. You’re in my bed, after all. Best spot in the whole manor.”
His teasing earned him the faintest twitch of your lips, and his grin widened, his chest swelling with a bittersweet kind of pride.
“Be right back, love,” He promised, pressing another kiss to your hair before reluctantly standing and heading for the door. He paused in the doorway, turning back for one last look at you, his hand gripping the doorframe as though he couldn’t bear to leave.
“I mean it,” He said softly. “Bravest little fox I’ve ever known.”
And with that, he disappeared into the en-suite bathroom.
It wasn't long before Lily came in, her soft footsteps barely audible on the carpet. She carried a steaming mug of tea, the soothing aroma of chamomile filling the air.
Lily placed the tea on the bedside table with careful precision, as though even the smallest noise might disturb your fragile peace. Her green eyes softened as they took you in- curled up in the bed, buried under layers of blankets, clutching James’s jersey like a lifeline. She crouched down, bringing herself to your level, her voice gentle but purposeful.
"My sleepy girl," She murmured, her words carrying both affection and worry. “You’ve been working so hard, sweetheart. Too hard.”
You didn’t respond, but the slight movement of your shoulders, as though trying to disappear further into the bed, told her enough.
Without another word, Lily stood and walked to the windows. With a flick of her wand, the heavy curtains drew themselves shut, dimming the room to a soft, cozy glow. The harsh winter light was replaced by the flickering warmth of lanterns, which she conjured in the corners of the room, their golden light soothing rather than overwhelming.
She paused, surveying the space with the critical eye of someone determined to make it perfect. Another flick of her wand, and the fireplace roared to life, its gentle crackle filling the silence.
When she returned to your side, she adjusted the blanket around you, tucking it under your chin with the utmost care. “There we are,” She said softly. “That’s a bit better, isn’t it?”
You nodded faintly, though your grip on the jersey didn’t loosen.
Lily reached for the tea again, this time bringing it closer. “I made this just for you,” She said, holding the mug carefully. “Chamomile, with a touch of honey- exactly how you like it. You don’t have to drink it all right now, but just one sip, love. For me?”
Her voice was so patient, so kind, that you found yourself leaning up slightly to take the mug. The warmth seeped into your hands, grounding you as you took a small sip.
“There’s my girl,” Lily cooed, her smile soft and encouraging. “You’re trying, and that’s all I could ever ask of you.”
Lily didn’t linger with physical affection- she knew you needed space today. Instead, she moved around the room, her actions deliberate and filled with purpose. She tidied the bedside table, arranging your tea and the stack of books James had haphazardly left there. She straightened the extra blanket at the foot of the bed, ensuring you had everything you might need within arm’s reach.
“Sweetheart,” She said as she worked, her voice gentle but firm. “I need you to hear this. You are not overstaying your welcome. This is your home, just as much as it’s ours. And there’s no clock ticking down on how long you’re allowed to rest.”
Her words hung in the air, a balm for the guilt you hadn’t been able to voice.
“You give so much of yourself,” She continued, turning to look at you. “To your studies, to your friends, to us. It’s time to let us give something back.”
Once the room was to her liking, Lily returned to your side, settling into the chair James kept beside the bed. She didn’t press you to talk or move, simply grabbing her abandoned knitting project and watching you with the kind of quiet determination that made it clear she wasn’t going anywhere.
“You don’t have to face everything today,” She hummed, looking down at her project and after a while, her voice grew soft- steady. “Some days are for fighting dragons. And some days...” She gestured to the bed and the blankets enveloping you. “Are for letting us do it for you.”
You didn’t reply, but when she reached for the tea again, you took another sip without hesitation.
“That’s my good girl,” She whispered, her smile returning. “Just take it one sip at a time, love. I’ll be right here.”
Sirius burst in next, his energy as uncontainable as ever, though it softened the moment he saw you curled up in the bed. He leaned against the doorframe, his arms crossed.
“Well, aren’t you a sight,” He teased lightly, though there was no bite in his tone- still earned him a glare from Lily. “What’s the excuse today? Too good for the rest of us? Or is this just another one of your ‘I’m not enough’ days?”
The humor was sharp, but the tenderness in his voice cracked through your defenses. You peeked out from beneath the blanket, giving him the smallest of glares.
“There she is,” He chuckled with a smirk, hands on his hips. “You’re lucky you’re adorable, you know. Otherwise, we might get offended by all this moping.”
Sirius strode over, his smirk fading into something softer as he crouched down to your level, his dark eyes searching yours. There was mischief there, of course, but also something deeper- concern, a kind of devotion that made you feel seen in a way that was both comforting and overwhelming.
Before addressing you again, Sirius turned to Lily, catching her hand and pressing a dramatic kiss to the back of it. “Don’t look at me like that, Evans,” He murmured, his voice low and teasing. “I’m here to help, not to make trouble. Mostly.”
Lily arched an eyebrow, but her lips twitched with a smile. “Be good,” She warned lightly, though the fondness in her voice betrayed her.
“Always,” Sirius replied, leaning forward to kiss her properly this time. It wasn’t quick or casual- it was intense and full of the kind of passion that made you look away instinctively, even though you were used to seeing it between them. When he pulled back, his grin had returned, brighter now.
“Merlin,” He sighed, turning his attention back to you. “Beautiful things you are. How’d I get so lucky, hmm?”
You blinked at him, caught off guard by the sincerity in his voice. Sirius Black, the eternal flirt, wasn’t supposed to be this soft. And yet, here he was, looking at you like you were the only thing in the room that mattered.
He settled himself on the edge of the bed, leaning back on his hands as he regarded you with a lopsided grin. “You know, you’ve really done it this time,” He chuckled, his tone light but warm. “Stolen James’s jersey, taken over his bed, and now hoarding Lily’s attention. Such a spoiled girl.”
Sirius's grin softened as he leaned down, his lips brushing over the blanket-covered curve of your shoulder. His voice dropped to a whisper, rough with affection and sincerity.
“I bloody love it,” He murmured, his dark eyes locked on yours. “Such a pretty girl, even when she’s hiding from me.”
Your breath hitched, though you quickly averted your gaze, burying your face further into Lily’s pillow. Sirius chuckled, the sound low and warm, as though your attempt to retreat only endeared you to him more.
Lily cleared her throat pointedly, her knitting needles clinking together as she worked. “Sirius Black,” She said with mock severity, though the softness in her voice betrayed her. “If you’re going to flirt, at least make yourself useful.”
Sirius raised an eyebrow at her, leaning back with that ever-present smirk. “Flirting is useful, Evans. Keeps her smiling, doesn’t it?”
Lily rolled her eyes but didn’t argue, her gaze flicking back to you. “You’re insufferable,” She muttered, though her lips twitched with a smile.
Sirius turned back to you, his hand brushing against the blanket as if silently asking permission to stay closer. “She’s just jealous,” He teased lightly. “She can’t stand how good I am at making you smile.”
When you didn’t reply, his voice softened, and his grin faded into something more vulnerable. “I mean it, though,” He murmured, his tone low and sincere. “I love seeing you get what you deserve. Everything. And I don’t care if you want to hide away in this bed forever, I’ll be right here with you.”
Lily paused her knitting, her expression softening as she glanced at Sirius. “You’re not as hopeless as you let everyone believe,” She said quietly, the hint of a smile on her lips.
“Don’t let that get out,” Sirius replied with a wink, though his eyes remained fixed on you. He reached out, brushing a strand of hair away from your face, his touch lingering for just a moment. “It’s our secret, yeah, love?”
Only then did you give a shy nod.
Remus entered the room quietly, his presence like the gentle warmth of a winter hearth. His amber eyes swept over the scene- Lily perched in her chair, Sirius lounging on the bed with a familiar smirk, and you cocooned in the blankets, clutching James’s jersey like a lifeline.
He crossed to Lily first, his movements unhurried, his focus unwavering. Leaning down, he pressed a soft kiss to her temple, the simple gesture filled with quiet affection. Lily looked up at him, her lips curving into a small, knowing smile as she reached up to touch his hand briefly before returning to her knitting.
Sirius, never one to be outdone, groaned dramatically from his spot on the bed. “Oh, come on, Moony. Where’s my kiss?”
Remus sighed, his lips twitching in amusement as he turned toward Sirius. “You’re relentless,” He muttered, though the corners of his mouth betrayed his fondness. He leaned down and pressed a quick, chaste kiss to Sirius’s lips, earning a pleased hum from the man sprawled beside you.
“There. Happy now?” Remus asked, his voice tinged with dry humor.
Sirius grinned, his eyes twinkling. “Ecstatic. Don’t let it stop there, though.”
You stayed quiet, sinking further into the blankets as you watched the interactions unfold. Remus hadn’t looked at you yet, hadn’t even acknowledged you, and the knot of guilt in your chest tightened. You couldn’t help but wonder if he was upset with you- if your inability to pull yourself out of this slump was finally wearing on his patience.
Lily must have noticed the way your fingers tightened on the jersey because she glanced at Remus pointedly. “Moony,” She said softly, her tone a mixture of gentle affection and subtle reprimand.
Remus’s gaze snapped to you, his amber eyes widening slightly as if realizing his mistake. “Oh, love,” he murmured, his voice dropping to that soothing tone he used when he wanted you to feel safe.
He crouched beside the bed, his hand resting lightly on the edge of the blanket. “I wasn’t ignoring you,” he said softly, his eyes searching yours for any trace of hurt. “I just didn’t want to overwhelm you.”
Your lips parted, but no words came out. Instead, you glanced away, feeling foolish for thinking he’d been upset.
Remus reached out, his hand hovering near yours before settling gently over it. “I could never be upset with you,” he said, as though he’d read your mind. “I promise.”
His touch was warm, grounding, and you felt the knot in your chest begin to loosen.
“You’ve been so strong,” he continued, his thumb brushing over your knuckles in slow, soothing circles. “But you don’t have to be. Not with us.”
Sirius leaned back, watching the two of you with a faint smile that lacked his usual mischief. “Told you,” he said softly, his voice uncharacteristically gentle. “We’re not going anywhere.”
Lily set her knitting aside and stood, crossing to place a hand on Remus’s shoulder. “She’s been feeling like a burden,” she said quietly, her green eyes meeting his.
Remus’s brows furrowed, his expression pained. “Love,” He whispered, turning his full attention back to you. “You are never a burden. You’re ours, and we’re yours. That’s all that matters.”
His words wrapped around you like a second blanket, his steady presence chasing away the lingering shadows. When you finally met his gaze, the soft smile that broke across his face was enough to bring tears to your eyes.
“There she is,” He murmured, reaching up to brush a tear from your cheek. “That’s my girl.”
You sniffled, your lips trembling as you whispered, “I thought you were mad at me.”
Remus shook his head, his hand moving to cradle your cheek. “Never,” he said firmly. “Not in a million years.”
Lily bent down to kiss your other cheek, her voice gentle. “See? You’ve got us, love. Always.”
James emerged from the bathroom, his hair damp and unruly, wearing nothing but his Quidditch shorts that clung low on his hips. He ran a towel through his hair, a casual grin already forming as he took in the scene: Sirius sitting on the bed beside you, Remus crouched at your side, and Lily perched back in her chair with her knitting. The room was soft with warmth, but James immediately noticed the slight redness in your eyes and the protective way everyone had positioned themselves around you.
“Oi, what’s this?” James said, tossing his towel onto a nearby chair. He crossed the room with his usual exuberance, his hazel eyes flicking between all of you. “You’re all hogging her. My bed, my girl, my jersey- where’s my share of the attention?”
Lily raised an eyebrow, though a small smile played on her lips. “Potter, don’t start.”
James frowned, his gaze finally landing on you fully. His teasing faded the moment he saw the way you were curled into yourself, the oversized jersey swallowing your frame as you clutched it tightly. He moved to sit on the edge of the bed, leaning closer. “Hey, what’s going on?” His voice was softer now, full of concern. “You okay, love?”
Sirius leaned back, his playful smirk replaced by a rare seriousness. He exchanged a glance with Lily and Remus before turning back to James. “She’s having a rough one,” Sirius said, his voice low. “Feeling like she’s not enough.”
James’s brows shot up in shock before knitting together in confusion. “Not enough?” He turned his full attention to you, his hazel eyes wide with disbelief. “You’re kidding, right? You- ”
He cut himself off, as if the thought was too absurd to finish. Instead, he shuffled closer, placing a hand over yours where it gripped his jersey. “Why would you ever think something like that?” His voice cracked slightly, the intensity of his feelings bleeding through. “You’re- Merlin, love, you’re everything. Don’t you know that?”
Your eyes welled up again, and you averted your gaze, suddenly overwhelmed by the weight of their care. “You’re all out there, doing amazing things,” you whispered, your voice barely audible. “Graduated, working, making a difference. And I’m just... stuck. Still in school, not knowing what I’m doing with my life. I feel like I’ll never catch up to any of you.”
James looked like he’d been physically struck. He opened his mouth, closed it, then looked around at the others for help. “Did you hear that?” He finally asked, addressing the room as though he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “She thinks she’s not enough. Her.” He gestured toward you, his expression almost comically outraged. “How’s that possible?”
Lily sighed, placing her knitting aside. “We’re working on it, James,” She said gently. “But maybe you could use less dramatics and more comfort?”
James blinked, then seemed to deflate. He turned back to you, his hand now cradling your cheek. “You listen to me, and you listen good,” He said, his voice uncharacteristically serious. “You are the bravest, kindest, most wonderful person I’ve ever met. You make every single one of us better just by being you. And I don’t care if you’re still in school or taking a break or deciding to be a bloody Muggle librarian- whatever you do, it’ll be brilliant, because you’re brilliant.”
You let out a soft, shaky laugh despite yourself, and James’s eyes lit up. “There’s my girl,” he said, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “No one’s allowed to make you feel like you’re not enough, love. Not even you.”
Sirius snorted, though his grin was soft. “James Potter, defender of self-esteem. Who would’ve thought?”
Remus reached out, brushing a strand of hair from your face as he gave James a knowing look. “For once, I’m not going to argue with him,” Remus said softly, his hand lingering against your cheek. “He’s right, you know. We wouldn’t be us without you.”
Lily leaned forward, her green eyes warm with affection. “And we’re not moving forward without you. You set your pace, sweetness, and we’ll match it. Always.”
James looked between them, then back at you, his grin returning. “See? We’re a package deal. You’re stuck with us, love. No escaping it.”
You couldn’t help but smile through your tears, the warmth of their unwavering love wrapping around you like a shield. For the first time in weeks, the weight on your chest felt just a little lighter.
“It's not too much?” You muttered, sinking into the sheets as James' arm wrapped around your middle. Muttering something to the others about hogging you.
“What's that, my sweetness?” Lily furrowed her brow at you as you shied away from her look.
“Having to.. do this. Dote on me every time even the slightest thing goes wrong.”
James froze, his arm tightening around you slightly as he processed your words. His hazel eyes widened in genuine confusion, and he blurted, “What?”
Sirius snorted, his smirk quickly turning to a full-on grin as he lounged back against the headboard. “She’s lost it,” he declared dramatically, waving a hand. “Thinks she’s a burden. Absolute nonsense.”
Remus gave him a mild look but didn’t disagree. Instead, he leaned forward slightly, his hand still resting on yours. “Love,” he said softly, his voice carrying that calming steadiness you always found comforting. “Why would you ever think that? We want to take care of you.”
You bit your lip, your fingers tightening on James’s jersey. “It just feels like too much sometimes,” You admitted hesitantly. “Every time I feel like this... every time something goes wrong, it’s like you have to put everything on hold for me. I don’t want to be that person.”
Lily set down her knitting with deliberate care, her green eyes narrowing slightly- not in anger, but in the kind of determination that made it clear she wasn’t letting this go. “Sweetheart,” She said firmly, leaning forward. “Do you remember the first time we really talked? Before all of this- before we were close?”
You blinked at her, startled by the question. “I... kind of?”
Lily smiled faintly, though there was a bittersweetness in her expression. “It was in our dorm, during fifth year. I had just gotten a letter from Petunia.”
The memory slowly surfaced, and your heart ached at the thought. You remembered that night vividly now: Lily sitting on her bed, trembling with silent tears as she clutched a crumpled piece of parchment. You’d found her there, completely undone by her sister’s cruel words.
“She’d written to tell me how much she hated me,” Lily continued, her voice soft but steady. “How I was a freak for being at Hogwarts. That I’d ruined everything for her. And I- I believed her, just for a moment. It was awful.”
You remembered sitting down beside her, your heart breaking for her pain. “I- I stayed with you,” you said quietly, piecing the memory together. “I hugged you, I think? And we talked for hours?”
Lily nodded, her smile softening. “You did more than that, love. You made me tea- awful tea, by the way, but I drank it anyway. And you told me stories about your family, about how proud they were of you, just to remind me that I had people who cared about me. You stayed up all night with me, even though I told you to go to bed.”
“I remember,” you whispered, tears stinging your eyes again.
Lily reached over, her hand warm as it brushed against your knee. “You didn’t think it was too much then, did you? Taking care of me when I needed it?”
You shook your head. “No, of course not. You needed someone.”
“And now you do,” she said simply. “And we’re here. Just like you were for me. That’s what this is, love. It’s not about being too much. It’s about love.”
Remus’s soft chuckle broke the silence that followed Lily’s words, drawing your teary eyes toward him. He was leaning back slightly, his long fingers absently running along the edge of the blanket near your hand.
“Since we’re doing memory lane,” He began, his voice calm but with a faint note of regret, “do you remember that time in the boys’ dorm? It must’ve been third year. It was just us, and I snapped at you over- what was it? Something stupid. A book, I think?”
Your brows furrowed as you tried to place the memory. Slowly, the image came back: the two of you in the quiet of the boys’ dormitory, Remus unusually tense as he rummaged through his belongings. You’d picked up one of his books, curious, and asked an innocent question about it, only for him to lash out sharply- so unlike his usual gentle self.
“I remember,” you murmured softly. “You were really upset.”
“I was a complete prat,” He huffed, his amber eyes meeting yours with a mix of apology and gratitude. “It was a couple of days before the full moon, and I was already on edge, but you didn’t know that. Hell, none of you knew yet. And instead of being angry with me- or worse, scared- you stayed.”
You blinked at him, surprised by the rawness in his voice. “You looked like you needed someone,” you said simply, echoing Lily’s earlier words. “I could tell something was wrong.”
Remus’s lips quirked in a small smile, though his eyes shone with unshed emotion. “You didn’t just stay. You sat with me, kept asking gentle questions until I calmed down. You even brought me one of James’s chocolate frogs- though you tried to hide the wrapper like you hadn’t nicked it.”
A small laugh bubbled up from your throat, the memory vivid now. “I thought he’d notice if the stash got too low.”
“He definitely did,” Sirius interjected with a grin. “He’s still salty about it.”
Remus ignored him, his focus entirely on you. “The point is, you stayed when I didn’t deserve it. When I wasn’t kind, when I didn’t have the words to explain what was really wrong- you stayed. You always have.”
He leaned forward, his hand brushing against yours again, grounding you. “And now, it’s our turn. You don’t have to say the right thing or be the strong one. You don’t have to do anything but let us stay with you. Just like you did for me.”
Your throat tightened, and you couldn’t bring yourself to speak. Instead, you nodded, your fingers brushing against his in a quiet acknowledgment.
Sirius let out a low whistle, cutting through the quiet moment as he stretched out on the bed beside you. His dark eyes sparkled with mischief, but there was a softness to his expression that tempered it. “You know,” he began, his voice casual but tinged with something deeper, “if we’re sharing stories of how this one”- he nudged your arm gently- “has saved our sorry hides, I’ve got a good one.”
You glanced at him, your brow furrowing in confusion. “What are you talking about?”
Sirius smirked, leaning back against the headboard. “I’m talking about how you pulled off the impossible- getting me and Regulus to talk without trying to hex each other.”
The memory came back slowly, hazy around the edges but vivid in its heart. You and Regulus had become friends in your third year, a surprising bond that Sirius had always half-envied, half-admired. Regulus had refused to speak to Sirius for years, his bitterness over his brother’s rebellion cutting deep. But on Sirius’s birthday in your fifth year, you’d orchestrated something you hadn’t even told him about until much later.
“You mean when I gave Regulus your gift?” You asked hesitantly, a flicker of guilt crossing your face. “I didn’t know if it was the right thing to do.”
“Didn’t know?” Sirius scoffed, sitting up straighter. “Love, it was brilliant. You handed him the gift and said- what was it again?” He snapped his fingers, grinning. “‘This doesn’t have to mean anything, but it might mean everything.’”
You flushed, your fingers tightening on James’s jersey. “I was just trying to make him see that you cared.”
Sirius’s grin softened, his voice dipping into something warmer, more sincere. “And he did. Merlin, he did. That was the first time we actually talked without shouting at each other. He came to me that night, you know? Told me about the gift- about you giving it to him. Said he’d been wrong about me.”
Your eyes widened. “He never told me that.”
Sirius nodded, his expression serious now. “He wouldn’t, would he? Too much like admitting he was wrong. But he did. And you- ” He leaned closer, his dark eyes locking onto yours. “You were the one who made it happen. You gave me my brother back, even if it was just for a little while.”
You felt the sting of tears again, but Sirius’s grin returned, lighting up the room like it always did. “So don’t you dare think you’re too much, yeah? You’re just enough. Always have been.”
James, still holding you close, huffed dramatically. “Honestly, at this rate, we should start writing all this down. ‘A Hundred Ways She Saved Our Sorry Arses,’ by the Marauders and Co.”
Remus chuckled, his hand still resting lightly on yours. “Might be a bestseller.”
James cleared his throat, his cheeks turning an uncharacteristic shade of pink as he glanced around the room. “Erm, well, like when she, uh, helped me with- ” He coughed awkwardly and rubbed the back of his neck, avoiding everyone’s gaze.
Lily perked up, her eyes narrowing with amused suspicion. “Helped you with what, Potter?”
“Nothing!” James blurted out quickly, his voice rising an octave. “Nothing at all! Definitely not learning how to- ”
“Oh, this I’ve got to hear,” Sirius interjected with a wicked grin, sitting up straighter. “Come on, Prongs, out with it. What was it? Dancing lessons? Your terrible piano skills?”
Remus raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued, but said nothing, letting Sirius poke and prod instead.
James groaned, burying his face in his hands for a moment before finally peeking through his fingers to look at you. “You’re not going to let me live this down, are you?”
You grinned softly, the smallest flicker of amusement breaking through the fog that had weighed you down all day. “Not a chance.”
James sighed dramatically, throwing himself back against the headboard. “Fine! She- ” He paused, taking a deep breath as if bracing himself for impact. “She helped me learn how to kiss, all right?”
There was a beat of stunned silence, followed by Sirius’s loud, delighted laughter. He doubled over, clutching his stomach as he tried to catch his breath. “You- what?” he choked out between fits of laughter. “She gave you kissing lessons? Oh, this is brilliant!”
“Shut up, Padfoot!” James snapped, his face now a deep crimson. He turned to you, his hazel eyes pleading. “You’re not going to let him tease me forever about this, are you?”
You bit back a laugh, the memory of that day rushing back to you like a warm breeze. “You were hopeless,” You said lightly, a teasing lilt in your voice.
James groaned again, covering his face with both hands. “I wasn’t hopeless. I just... needed a bit of practice!”
“Hopeless,” You repeated, grinning now as Lily let out a soft laugh.
“What’s this about practice?” She asked, her green eyes sparkling with curiosity.
You leaned back against the pillows, feeling lighter than you had all day. “It was fifth year. James had this huge crush on someone- ”
“Lily,” Sirius supplied gleefully.
“Shut it!” James hissed, his ears turning pink now.
“- and he was panicking because he’d never kissed anyone before,” you continued, ignoring James’s protests. “So, he asked me to help.”
Sirius looked like Christmas had come early. “And you said yes? Oh, Prongs, you’re lucky she’s nicer than me. I would’ve hexed you for asking.”
You laughed softly, your voice growing more confident. “It was actually really sweet. He was so nervous. I had to practically drag him to the Astronomy Tower so no one would see us.”
“I’m right here, you know,” James grumbled, though his lips twitched with a reluctant smile.
Remus chuckled quietly, his amber eyes warm as he listened. “So, how did it go?”
You smirked at James, enjoying his obvious discomfort. “He was a fast learner. By the end of it, I think I told him he’d do just fine.”
“You did,” James muttered, finally lowering his hands to reveal a sheepish grin. “And then you told me to stop panicking and just talk to her like a normal person.”
“And did you?” Lily asked, her tone both amused and affectionate.
James grinned, turning to her. “I think it worked out, don’t you?”
Lily rolled her eyes but leaned over to kiss his cheek, her smile softening. “I suppose it did.”
Sirius shook his head, still grinning. “Unbelievable. I leave you alone for five minutes, and you’re out here getting kissing lessons. Prongs, you’re a menace.”
James shrugged, his grin widening. “You're just jealous I got to her first.”
Remus leaned closer to you, his voice low enough that only you could hear. “And you didn’t charge him a single Galleon for the service? You’re too kind.”
You laughed softly, shaking your head. “It was worth it just to see him blush this much.”
James groaned again, but the warmth and laughter in the room were undeniable, wrapping around you like a blanket. For the first time in a while, you felt lighter- like maybe you weren’t so lost after all.
As the laughter settled, you found yourself leaning into James’s embrace, the warmth of your loves surrounding you like a safety net you hadn’t realized you needed. Maybe you didn’t have all the answers yet, but with them by your side, you knew you’d figure it out- one day, one step, one laugh at a time.

“What in Merlin’s name?” Sirius whispered in disbelief as he approached Lily and James in the library; the table they were currently occupying was nearly overflowing with pink poster board, glitter, and an array of charmed flowers clearly pilfered from the greenhouses.
“What are you two up to now?” Remus asked as he cautiously pulled a chair that was free of ribbon and lace.
“Preparing for my N.E.W.T’s, can’t you tell?” Lily retorted, the small quirk of her lips was the only proof Remus got that her words were in jest before her tongue stuck out between her teeth again as she tried to tie a difficult bow.
“Jamie, can I borrow your finger, please?” She asked around an exasperated sigh; James appeared all too eager and willing to oblige.
“It’d be my honour, m’lady.” He offered with a saccharine smile.
Lily shook her head at him but smiled nonetheless as she completed her bow.
“Right, so, back to my earlier sentiments; what in the buggering fuck is going on here?” Sirius spat, not nearly as careful as Remus had been as he dumped various craft supplies onto the ground to free up a chair for himself.
“Yeah, who are you trying to woo now, Prongs?” Remus taunted, earning him a snort and a head shake from James who never removed his lovesick gaze from Lily.
“This is all her.”
“Evans!?” Sirius beseeched. “Who are you trying to woo!?”
“We’re both” Lily corrected as she offered James a half-hearted glare “pursuing Y/N.”
“Y/N? Didn’t an owl deliver her a box of chocolates just yesterday?” Remus asked.
“Those were from us.” Lily replied, her focus steady on the craft in front of her.
“And a bouquet of flowers the day before that?”
“Yup.”
“And the howler that simply played ABBA’s Take a Chance on Me?”
“What is your point, Sirius?” Lily harrumphed as she stepped back to admire her creation.
A mischievous look took over Sirius’ face that Lily didn’t notice on account of her attention being solely dedicated on her current task of wooing you, but had Remus bracing for impact.
“Say, Prongsie, what was the first box of chocolates you sent to Evans in your attempts to pursue her?”
“The toffee flavoured truffles that I saw her eyeing at Honeydukes!” He responded quickly, and Remus watched as Lily’s brows furrowed.
“Right, and how many bouquets of lilies did you send her?”
“Forty-two.”
“Uh huh.” Sirius drawled. “And, remind me, what song did you send Lily via howler?”
“Lay All Your Love on Me!”
“And tell me, Evans, where’d you get all this?” He asked as he pulled a string of lacy ribbon between his fingers only for Lily to rip it away from him.
“From James’ trunk. Stop touching it!”
“Oh gods, you’re just as bad as he was!” Sirius cackled, and Lily turned to look at James who was simply smiling at her.
“I…I am not as bad as he was. I- …he was such a toerag!”
Sirius snorted. “Then that makes you a toerag-ess.”
Lily looked like she was reaching for her wand to hex Sirius for his shite, but James grabbed her wrist and brought her knuckles to his lips for a kiss before she could manage to. “Don’t worry, Lils. You came around eventually.”
“Six years later.” Remus chuckled under his breath, though he immediately regretted it when Lily’s horrified face whipped towards him.
“Six years later!? It took me six years!?” She nearly shrilled. “We don’t have six years! We have months!”
“No one can deny you, my beautiful Lily flower.” James cooed as he rubbed his thumb over Lily’s knuckles.
It looked like his attempt at placation had almost worked before Lily noticed you walking by.
“Wait! Y/N!” She shouted, nearly tripping over various ribbons and boxes of craft supplies as she hurried after you. “Did you get the chocolates we sent you yesterday!?”
“You guys are so hopeless.” Sirius muttered, earning him a small chuckle from James, though he never got a chance to respond.
“Potter!” You hissed as Lily forcibly led you towards their table with her arm around your shoulder. “This goes against every feminist urge in my body, but would you control your woman!?”
James simply rested his chin on his hand as he gazed at the two of you. “I wouldn’t dream of it, angel.”
Realisation seemed to dawn on you as a group of fifth years walked past whispering “oh Merlin. It’s happening again.”
“You’re kidding me.” You deadpanned as Lily smiled and pressed her nose into your cheek.
“There’s nothing funny about our feelings for you.” James responded earnestly.
“Well,” Sirius cut in, “it’s kind of funny.” He countered, nodding his head towards the table that looked as though cupid himself had thrown up on it.
“Oh, like you haven’t sent Lupin a howler or two of your own, Black.” You sneered, causing Remus to choke on the sip of water he’d been taking and Sirius to gawk at you in surprise.
“Where do you find these birds, James?!”
James simply let out a dreamy sigh as he beamed at you. “Heaven.”
And by Lily’s effervescent smile pointed directly at the side of your face, Remus could tell she more than agreed with that sentiment.
Hi D!! Just saw ur post and have been thinking lots about poly!jily x reader lately, so maybe a drabble with a reader who has endometriosis or just really painful period cramps? Thank you <3

poly!jily x reader | 2k
summary: when you’re stuck in bed with unbearable period cramps, a small accident only magnifies the pain - and the doubts you have been carrying. but as james and lily rush to care for you, they remind you that love isn't something you have to earn.
warnings: period pain, endometriosis symptoms, mentions of hospitals and medical care, burning injury from hot tea, crying and panic, self deprecating thoughts, feeling like a burden, kissing, hurt/comfort with fluff, not proofread at all.
You could feel everything in the apartment; the rustle of bags in the kitchen, the patter of rain against the window, and the faint hum of the radiator.
Normally these sounds would be comforting, grounding even, but today they were torture. Every small noise, every flicker of light above your head grated against your raw nerves.
Your body betrayed you; sweat clung to your skin, making every inch feel heavy and foreign.
The pain in your abdomen was relentless, sharp, fiery, stabbing. Closing your eyes, letting the tears fall freely, did nothing to dull the agony.
It felt like knives were being driven into you, over and over, flames licking at the wound. You curled inward instinctively, trying to shrink from your own body.
A warm hand brushed across your cheek, gentle but firm, grounding you. You lifted your head, blinking through tears, and found Lily kneeling beside the bed. Worry was etched deep into her features, and the sight alone brought a fleeting sense of relief.
“Hey, lovely,” she whispered, voice soft and tender.
You let out a shaky sigh into the warmth of her hand.
“Hi, Lils,” you muttered, your voice cracking.
She smiled, small and sweet, like the world might still make sense. “You feeling okay?”
You shook your head. “It hurts.”
Her expression softened even more, and she immediately reached for a small tray beside her. “I know, love. I brought you some sage tea—it helps. Come on, up and drink.”
Just as you braced yourself to sit up, the door creaked open and James stepped in, holding a couple of things in his hands. “I brought some pills and a heating pad—oh, she’s awake,” he said, crouching down beside the bed. His eyes softened the moment he saw you.
“Hi, sweetheart,” he murmured, brushing damp hair from your forehead as he helped you prop yourself up against the pillows. “Still in pain?”
You nodded, your body shivering from both cold and discomfort. He set the heating pad against your lower abdomen, sighing softly. “We’re gonna take care of you, yeah? Just relax.”
Lily handed you the steaming mug of tea, and you took it gratefully, feeling a flicker of comfort in the warmth seeping through your fingers. “Thank you,” you whispered.
The sage tea scalded pleasantly against your palms, the warmth a fragile comfort in contrast to the searing cramps twisting your abdomen. You raised it to your lips, forcing yourself to swallow despite the nausea that clung to your throat.
Lily’s hand stayed at your back, steadying you, while James—never content to hover—slid into the bed beside you with boyish ease, tugging Lily with him until the three of you were pressed close in a kind of makeshift cocoon.
James’s arm snaked around your waist, tugging gently, trying to fold you into the circle of warmth he and Lily created. But the next wave of pain tore through you so violently that you jerked away, shoving his hand off with a broken gasp.
The mug slipped.
Boiling tea cascaded over your lap, your abdomen, your thigh. For a heartbeat you didn’t even register what had happened—only that the pain had doubled, red-hot agony layered over agony.
Then the scream tore from your throat, ragged and unrestrained, as if your body had finally reached its breaking point.
You couldn’t tell whether it was the burn or the cramps or both, but it didn’t matter. It was unbearable.
Everything blurred at once. The sheets flew back, Lily’s hands were on your face, trembling but firm, her voice a rapid string of soothing murmurs.
“Oh—fuck! Shit, it’s okay, it’s okay, I’ve got you, just breathe, just breathe—” But even through her panic, you heard the cracks of fear in her tone, the fragile edges of her calm.
James was up in an instant, panic and horror crossing his features. You felt the tug as he stripped the blankets away, then the sharp rip of fabric as he tore your shorts open with no hesitation.
The cold air hit your skin, followed by the sickening throb of fire racing across your abdomen and thigh.
“This is gonna hurt a bit, I am so sorry—” James swore under his breath, voice hoarse, and you caught the flash of horror in his eyes as he leaned in. The skin was angry and blistering red, seared and furious.
Your sobs wracked through you, hot tears spilling down your cheeks as you buried your face against Lily’s chest, clinging to her shirt like it was the only solid thing in the world.
She pressed her cheek to the top of your head, her hands stroking your hair even as her voice shook. “It’s alright, darling, we’ll fix this, you’re okay, just hold on.”
James’s touch was the opposite of hers—efficient, determined, but his movements trembled at the edges. “We need cool water. Now. Lil, wet a cloth, quickly.”
Lily hesitated for a second, torn between you and the order, before James snapped, gentler but no less urgent, “Go, I’ll stay with her. Please.”
The bed shifted as Lily rushed out, and James stayed crouched over you, one hand hovering protectively above the burn as though he could will the pain away.
“Sweetheart, I need you to keep breathing for me, okay? Just breathe. I’ve got you. You’re not alone in this.”
By the time James reappeared, his arms were full—bandages, a jar of balm, a small bundle of medical tools, and the dripping weight of a wet cloth. His face was set in determined lines, but you could see the panic smoldering beneath his composure, a storm he wouldn’t let break because you needed him steady.
He knelt beside the bed again, setting the supplies down with sharp efficiency, and pressed the cloth gently to your stomach.
The hiss you let out made your whole body seize, your fists tightening in Lily’s shirt until your knuckles ached. She held you closer, pressing her lips to your temple, her voice unshaken despite the tears glimmering in her eyes.
“It’s okay, my love, it’s okay,” she whispered over and over, her words wrapping around you like a lullaby. “I know it hurts. I know. You’re in so much pain, but we’re right here. You’re safe.”
James worked quickly, his jaw tight as he cooled the burn in slow, deliberate passes. Every time you whimpered, his hands faltered, his breathing sharp as if he was the one in pain.
When he finally uncapped the balm, the scent of herbs filled the air. His fingers trembled slightly as he smoothed the ointment over the angry red skin, then carefully wrapped you in fresh bandages.
When it was done, he let out a breath like he’d been holding it the entire time. He reached for you without hesitation, tugging you into his chest.
You collapsed against him, your sobs muffled into his shirt, your body shaking with exhaustion.
“I’m sorry,” you whispered brokenly between gasps, though the words barely carried.
James pressed his lips to your hair, frowning. “What are you sorry for, sweetheart?” His voice was soft, coaxing, desperate for you to understand you’d done nothing wrong.
“For—” your words cracked, breaking into another sob, “for being such a burden… and for spilling the tea Lily made.”
“Oh, darling,” Lily breathed, her hands cupping your face as she leaned close, brushing away your tears with her thumbs. “No. No, no, no. You’re not a burden. You could never be a burden to us.” Her voice broke for the first time, but she steadied it with sheer force of love. “And the tea doesn’t matter. You matter. Only you.”
James held you tighter, his hand stroking your back in steady circles. “Listen to her,” he murmured into your hair, his voice thick. “You’re the farthest thing from a burden. We’ll take every pain, every spill, every bit of it if it means you let us take care of you. That’s all we want.”
You sighed, body sagging into the warmth of their embrace, though the pain still clawed at you with every breath. For a while the room was quiet, save for the faint patter of rain against the windows and the uneven hitch of your own breathing.
You stared at the ceiling, trying to will your body to loosen, to forget itself.
It was Lily who finally broke the silence, her voice soft but steady. “Love,” she whispered, brushing a damp strand of hair from your forehead, “I think you really should let us take you to the hospital. Just to get a checkup. To make sure nothing’s being missed.”
You shook your head immediately, your throat tightening. “It’s fine. I’ll be fine.”
James, sitting pressed against your side, exhaled slowly, his hand stroking your arm as though soothing a frightened animal. “Sweetheart,,” he said carefully, “I know you don’t like hospitals, and I also know you hate checkups. But you’re always in this kind of pain—intense, unbearable pain—every month. That’s not something you should just live with.”
Your chest clenched at his words, shame bleeding into your exhaustion. Before he could say more, you cut in sharply, your voice breaking.
“If you don’t want me to bother you with it, fine. I’ll just go somewhere else when my period comes. You won’t have to deal with it anymore.”
The words hung in the air like shards of glass, and instantly both of them were speaking at once.
“Don’t you dare think that,” James snapped, firm but not unkind, his hand tightening protectively around yours.
Lily leaned closer, her green eyes fierce, as though she could burn the thought out of you entirely. “We don’t want you to go to the hospital because we’re fed up. We want you to go because we’re scared, love. Because we hate seeing you like this.” Her thumb stroked along your jaw, trembling. “You are not a burden. Not ever. Do you understand?”
James pressed his forehead to your shoulder, his voice low but urgent. “We’ll sit through every bloody appointment, every waiting room, every sleepless night if that’s what it takes. Don’t push us away.”
Your voice cracked as you whispered, “I can’t even hold a mug without spilling boiling tea all over myself. If I can’t manage something that simple, how long before you both get tired of me? What if I’m just… too much?”
“None of that, love.” James pulled back just enough to look you in the eye, his words steady and fierce. “Even on the worst days—especially then—you’ll never be too much for us.”
You swallowed hard, blinking through the fresh wave of tears as you gave the smallest nod.
A moment later, Lily wrapped her arms firmly around your waist and pressed her cheek against yours. The warmth of her embrace steadied you, grounding you in a way words never could.
James’s expression softened as he watched both of his girls together, his heart full of love and pride.
You sighed, letting the tension bleed out of your shoulders as you whispered, “Okay… fine. Maybe tomorrow we can visit a doctor.”
Both of them lit up at once—relief softening their faces, a subtle glow of victory in their eyes. Lily brushed a kiss across your temple, whispering, “Thank you, love,” before standing from the bed. “Alright then, we’re ordering in. What are you craving?”
Beside you, you could already feel James perk up at the mere mention of food. His entire body tensed with excitement, like a dog about to be offered a treat.
Lily caught the look instantly and shot him a withering glare over her shoulder, her expression sharp enough to cut steel. The unspoken message was clear: don’t you dare speak before she does, you greedy prat.
You couldn’t help the small laugh that slipped from you, even through the dull throb in your abdomen. “Hmm,” you hummed softly, pretending to think, though the answer came almost automatically. “I think… Mexican sounds nice.”
James all but leapt on the agreement. “Perfect! Brilliant choice!” His grin was infectious, though you could practically hear Lily’s exasperated sigh as she rolled her eyes at him, muttering something under her breath about bottomless pits.
“Mexican it is,” she chuckled, shaking her head as she went to place the order.
You leaned into James, letting his warmth soak into your aching body, the heavy thrum of pain still twisting deep in your stomach.
You knew it would only get worse when night fell—the way it always did. But pressed against him, with Lily fussing in the next room, it didn’t feel quite as unbearable as usual.
James pressed a kiss into your hair, still smiling to himself as if the simple promise of enchiladas had healed everything. You exhaled slowly, eyes fluttering shut.
Mexican wasn’t really what you were craving—truthfully, you couldn’t stomach the thought of much food at all—but James adored it. He always had, and somehow, every time the choice came up, you found yourself picking it just for him.
Because the truth was, even through the worst pain, making him happy still made you feel lighter. Even if that meant shelving your own cravings to make room for his, it hardly felt like a sacrifice—not when you loved them both with a depth that made the smallest compromises feel easy.
And, besides, maybe a little Mexican take-out could help ease the ache twisting in your abdomen.
Lily's breath is soft and even against the top of your head.
You're wreathed in thick strands of auburn, tucked into the dip of your girlfriend's clavicle. An old soap plays on the telly, mindless white noise lulling you to sleep as Lily's slender hand scrubs across your back; up and down, fingers splaying across the nape of your neck to draw you closer.
Your lips smack wetly as you press kisses to her freckled skin– her shoulder, throat, jaw. She hums, stretching slow and lazy like a cat, hooking an ankle round your calf. You sink into her like soft butter.
You're both half asleep by the time the door creaks open and snicks shut. Heavy footfalls permeate the otherwise ebbing quiet of the flat.
A kiss smears against the corner of your mouth; you hear a squeaky smooch lovingly pressed to Lily's, too.
"Jamie," you coo; your voice is thick and syrupy with sleep, though no less loving.
"Hey, babylove. You two snuggling without me?"
Lily curls her fingers over the scruff of your neck, effectively trapping you before James can steal you away. You smile- light and happy and lovely- and reach for James' outstretched hand.
"You were long," Lily says, thumbing at the crease of his elbow.
"There was a queue at the shops, pretty girl. Would've been back sooner, otherwise."
James' hand is at the small of Lily's back before you can muster a reply, lifting her up and off of the worn leather sofa – and by extension, you. He's not very graceful when he wheedles his way beneath the pair of you, but it's welcomed nonetheless.
He settles with his legs spread, both of you tucked snug in the middle. You soak up his warmth gratefully, stretching to press a slow kiss against his smiling lips.
You can't even pretend to be cross at his intrusion. He's simply too lovely.
James slides further down the settee and subsequently jostles the pair of you further into his arms. You brace a hand against the broad muscle of his chest, squishing your cheek right over his heart. Lily sinks her teeth playfully into his shoulder.
"Ow! You little vixen!" he cries, throwing his head back, arms splayed wide. You nibble at the hollow of his throat.
"Dramatic," you snort.
Lily smiles so wide it crinkles all the skin by her eyes. You thumb at her crows feet adoringly.
"Ahh, my girls," James says wistfully, glasses askew.
You can't help but needle in closer when he demands it.
