Jim Hardy is a talented New York singer whose dreams of escaping showbiz and living on a farm come true when his suave partner Ted Hanover steals Jim’s fiancee, the flighty dancer Lila Dixon, leaving Jim to open Holiday Inn, a Connecticut farm-house-turned-nightclub that is only open on holidays.

Linda Mason is a simple New York flower shop girl who has been waiting for her big break into show business, and a chance encounter with Jim’s former agent sends her on a mission to get hired at Holiday Inn.

After meeting by accident and putting on pretentious airs to impress each other, Jim and Linda find that they have a great deal in common, and they are pleasantly satisfied with making the simple Holiday Inn into something special. However, Ted Hanover soon arrives, recently deserted by Lila, and sets his sights on stealing Linda as his own new dance partner. Jim goes to great lengths to prevent Ted from discovering Linda’s identity, but he finally takes his scheming too far and loses Linda’s trust. Still, Linda’s heart belongs to Jim and the simple life they have at Holiday Inn, and even the schemes of Ted and his agent will not be able to keep them from being together.
