Let’s not play the game of dividing the so-called mainstream media from its owners. The mainstream media of the US is owned lock, stock, and barrel by the military industrial complex. If you want to call it anything, you can call it the ‘military media.’ The military makes money by making war; they buy the media to promote war. They use the media to promote propaganda in favor of war. And that is where we get into the mess we’re in today. The military controls the media because they own them.

Germany does not have that luxury of being truly sovereign. Remember how Mrs. Merkel folded like a house of cards when she found out that Barack Obama was tapping here cellphone. In fact, Germany is not a fully sovereign state that her foreign policy, her intelligence policy, their institutions are essentially controlled by their American counterparts and their financial sectors are extremely vulnerable to any retaliation from the Americans.

Samantha Power doesn’t like RT because they report the news that the so-called mainstream media in the US - which are essentially stenographers for the White House and the State Department - don’t cover. As far as her accusing the Russians and saying “you can’t be for peace as long as you support…” What? The government that is defending its own territory? How much can you be for peace, human rights, and democracy if you’re supporting jihadist terrorist who cut people’s heads off?

CNN is one of the worst elements of advocacy journalism. Let’s just remember Christiane Amanpour and her writing for Back to the Balkans, and her position on Syria and Libya too. That you’ve got one of the worst advocates for words of choice coming out of CNN and other mainstream American media. I think any foreign media and frankly the alternative media that is growing here in the US is a necessary antidote. I feel most like people in the Soviet Union used to do during the communist time – they needed to consult Samizdat in foreign media as a corrective to what they were hearing from the official media.
