At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command (1st Pressing) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @atdimusic ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Look, I’ll be honest with you and say that I have always had some mixed emotions about Record Store Day, not because I haven’t had a good time and snagged some seriously awesome records, but because I HATE being anxious and stressed, I hate waiting in line for anything, I really don’t like that the rush for creating all the goodies for the day means that the few still operating record plants in the world are working at capacity for big names instead of the little guys. Each year I say I won’t get worked up about it and I’ll just show up after the crowds die down to support my local stores and see what’s left and every year I wake up anxious, drink too much coffee, get in line like I say I won’t, and blow a huge wad on records I didn’t realize I needed. It’s a cycle I know I’m stuck in, and I’m only OK with it because I’ve also come to know some amazing record store employees and owners over the years and I know it’s such a huge day for them. It’s also an exciting day where so many people come together to share in the love for the medium and that’s why we’re all here, right?! I’m playing one of my beloved ATDI records tonight because it makes me think of a RSD a few years back where I stood in line at @vinaledge hours before they opened just to make sure I could score a copy of the Relationship of Command reissue because I didn’t have a copy of it yet. I met some cool folks that morning, I went home with some beloved records I still hold dear, and I got to spend the morning with my favorite folks at Vinal Edge in Houston reveling in the holiday of RSD. Whether you love or hate it, you’ve gotta admit it’s become a real big thing in the community. Tonight I’ll act real cool but tomorrow morning I’ll be in line panicked about whether I’ll score a copy of @robynkonichiwa - Body Talk, I’m sure.
