The Great Wall at Jinshanling. . 1. Jinshanling is known for being one of the most beautiful sections of the Great Wall. Here, the wall meanders over miles and miles of deciduous woodland, up and down over these stunning hills and into the distance. I've heard it's even more gorgeous when the leaves change color, but this view was still absolutely breathtaking. . 2. One of the towers through the window of another tower. This one was a doozy to climb, the steps almost forming a ladder to the top, every footstep echoing off the stone almost like a rock falling into a long, deep well. . 3. Jinshanling has both restored and unrestored sections, and the trees have started to encroach upon the ramparts, the weeds have started to break apart the tiles. Here you can see holes near the bottom of the battlements, where defenders could roll boulders down upon their enemies. . 4. A section of Jinshanling has these original bricks from 400 years ago, collected from other parts of the wall and brought here all together. Each brick was stamped with the name of its maker and the date of its creation, so that if there was ever a flaw, the authorities would be able to pinpoint exactly who'd done it!

Great Wall of China - Jinshanling, China 

The section of the Great Wall at Jinshanling is 10.5km long, and features 5 passes, 67 towers and 3 beacon towers. Parts of the wall in Jinshanling have been restored to its original condition, while other parts have deteriorated to its natural state. 

This part of the great wall is great for hiking, and is less crowded than other sections. The walk from Jinshanling to nearby Simatai takes approximately 4 hours. There is a cable car which takes visitors up to the walls highest point.
