I’m obsessed with the subtextual theme about agency and fate– how much of what we experience is random, and how much is a conscious choice of some entity that operates on a level that we don’t understand? Like the way the fairies use knowledge of the future to make decisions, or the mediator’s hair performs actions independent or her, and even the assistant’s weird little story where Geoff actually orchestrated all the "random" deaths. Nature has some kind of black box programming, and we're not allowed to see the process that leads to the output. And once humanity is no longer the dominant species, we'll have no choice but to leave our echo chamber and listen to those unseen, unknown forces.
