Suzy gritted her teeth at the patron's outburst, torn between her fiery anger over being late to work and the barista's injured pride. It was clearly the latter's first day on the job, but any pity Suzy felt was instantly muted; the other woman's influence was much too strong. When she finally left, there was a moment of reprieve -- she managed to place her order and move to the side to wait for her beverage. But quite suddenly, the peace was shattered; someone else in the coffee shop was even more emotional than the woman before, but she couldn't pinpoint exactly which customer it was. Whoever this stranger was, they were not having a pleasant morning.
