Artist  Luca Mazzieri under the avatar of JJ MAZZ creates an otherwordly soundscape that will draw the listener in with it’s dark ambiance and emotionally charged compositions. Here are some answers to some pressing questions we asked of him!

01. Hello how are you and what are you up to right now? Ciao!!! i'm fine, thanks.Working on new stuff... i'm getting darker and raw, really excited.

02. Where are you based from and what are some of your favourite things about that place I live in a small town in the Apennine Mountains, North-Centre of Italy, about an hour far from Modena.It's a real quite place: woods, small rivers, wild animals, long walks and good wine. I have all i need to stay in touch with myself.I used to live in Modena and play every week all around with my main band but it's time to take everything slower...The right place to live now.

03. How would you describe the music that you make? "Broken-neck love songs".I'm the guy who plays in a dive bar in a Lynch's movie.

04. What was the name of the first song you ever wrote? When was it? I had several lives in music. Speaking as JJ MAZZ is Honey, last autumn, watching outside the window, eating honey slides and dreaming Chet Baker

05. How did you pick the name of your project? MAZZ is from Mazzieri, my surname, JJ is an ode to Johnny Jewel, a "maestro".Me plus "what" i'd love to be.

06. What artists made you get into making music? Johnny Jewel, Dirty Beaches, Jim Jarmush and David Lynch.

07. How was the first show you played under the name of JJ Mazz? This June in a small Estate Agency in Modena opening for The Lobby Boys. Me by myself with guitar and drum machine, some visual, a bunch of friends and beers... just perfect!

08. How was the most recent show that you played? Where was it? I played with full band (drum & bass) for my label (La Barberia Records)'s showcase in a supercool venue on the beach in Marina di Ravenna called Hana Bi. My friend Stefano Cristi joined me on stage with his sax for two songs.  Simply A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!

09. Any local bands from your area that you are into and would like to share? "Baseball Gregg" and "Smash" (new album is coming) from my label! My friends "His Clancyness" and "Stromboli" from Bologna.

10. Any sleeping tips for us? "Sleeping tapes" by Jeff Bridges

Nella doppia esposizione immagini diverse si sovrappongono dentro la stessa fotografia. Quasi come ricordi, fantasmi che galleggiano abbracciati nello stesso istante e si imprimono nello stesso spazio. Non riesco a togliermi dalla testa che questo abbia a che fare in qualche modo con la musica di jj mazz, il nome nuovo di una nostra vecchia conoscenza: Luca Mazzieri. Prima nei Marla, poi negli A Classic Education, infine con i Wolther Goes Stranger, Luca continua a portare in giro il suo animo rock'n'roll...
