JLS goodbye tour
Liam and Barbara
comforting Niall while he was crying at JLS last concert
Find comfort in this, heart-broken JLSters. (Article)
The chart topping superstars who couldn't win X-factor are slowly bringing their long winded break up and blatant marketing ploy to a close signifying the end of their forgettable existence.
JLS kickstarted their short-lived career coming second to Alexandra Burke in the 2008 X-factor. Despite losing the band found international success. The glorified reality-tv stars have gone on to win numerous awards including Best Group, Best Single, Best Video and Best UK Act.
Devastatingly, for many of their dedicated fan base, the band announced in April of this year that they would be breaking up. Today, 8 months later they play their last show at the O2 in London completing their Goodbye Tour.
Of course a Goodbye tour and a Greatest hits were completely understandable, their millions of fans would all want to see them before the went and as a helpful side effect pay big prices for the tickets.
The band have always been financially sound, similar to brand band KISS their merchendise line is extensive and their marketing moves are well executed and highly profitable.
Is their breakup overkill? An 8 month breakup was hardly necessary, the band could have paid their dues to the fans that would have missed them in a fraction of the time. Despite underlying love/hate for the band and regardless of the controversial subject of talent, it is clearer now than ever that the band are a money making project, greedy to squeeze money out of what was once considered an art form and to many music fans today is a scared platform for expression. There is no debate about authenticity in music necessary here however, everything JLS has done has been a fairly obvious money making attempt and the act do it well. It is just a shame so many people consuming modern media can not see this.
One benefit for the fans of this money hungry act is that there is no doubt that the band will be back to scavenge some more from the consumers and chances are it will be in the near future hence their is no need to cry over their departure from the mainstream.
