With the sun shining, the radio on, and Malia in the passenger seat, Jesse came to the firm decision that today was going to be a good day. Even the ever-present worry about Chase dimmed after an iris message an hour prior, and his smile hadn’t left his face since he had picked Malia up for lunch, although that was more to do with her company. Their previous conversation had faded into a comfortable silence and, after a few minutes, he glanced away from the road and over to her. “I know it’s way too far to walk, but it feels wrong to be driving with the weather like this.”
