Two days ago, the bae @jmlascar finished the first draft of her novel!!! I was extremely lucky to read it along; it's a beautiful goth love story, and a powerful tale about living when it seems there's not much left to live for. I can't express how much I adore her way with words and how blown I am by the depth of her characters, but I hope this illustration gives it an idea. So proud of you Jules, you're such an inspiration, the world would be duller without you ❤️

A WIP that inspires me is @jmlascar‘s Letters From The Underside. The detailed worldbuilding, the clear plot, the twist that makes you slam your hand on your desk and yell at the page (no? just me?), the beautiful and realistic but somehow magical scenery, the diverse and wonderfully rich characters, it’s amazing. Not to mention the romance for one of the POV characters is just so, so great, and just as great is the complete lack of romance for the other POV character. I love the way both were handled, and I hold both the romance and lack of in this book near and dear to my heart. Everything feels carefully and thoughtfully created, nothing feels messy, it’s all intentional and works together. AND! It’s the first in a trilogy. The dedication and thinking ahead?? Wild. There’s something about the way she’s written it, it almost feels poetic at points. And the world and the god-given gifts all somehow feel familiar, like I’ve walked around in the streets of Thana myself, and I’ve met people that can set fires from nothing or listen to the history of a pocket watch.

It inspires me to put more focus and thought into my own work, to plan ahead, and also to put equal value in the soft, character-based scenes as I do in big action-packed, plot-moving scenes. (Also can I just say Julia in general inspires me in more ways than just her WIP)

thank you !!! they’re excerpts from ATTWDC, and the arc both of these (accidentally) came from is when Karyn (and Death ofc) are trying to stay off of Triste’s (the antagonist’s) radar.

specifically, the process of a) reviving a house that hasn’t been lived in for half a year, and b) getting to know the area when you don’t speak the local tongue.
