Against many odds, Bertolt Brecht's "The Threepenny Opera" becomes a phenomenal success. The film industry picks up the scent and seeks to make the master direct a film version. Brecht though refuses to play by their rules.

An excuberant production, that switches seamlessly between the events related to the making the movie and scenes from the movie itself, all of it presented by an excellent ensemble. The sets and the production design also have to mentioned.

As for the story, it's remarkable how many topics are still highly relevant today. Be it the friction between writers and the movie industry, and of course, especially how unfettered capitalism exploits the working class.
