Hey I'm currently building a 'street vigilante nightwing' cosplay for Oz Comic and their guideline for weapons are very strict. What did you make your batons out of? They have ruled out metal, wood, and fiberglass, and because this is my first cosplay I have no idea where to go from here.. Any ideas?
Hi! Mine are just a broom handle I sawed into pieces, painted and sealed, so it’s unfortunately wood…
You could maybe try cutting & shaving a pool noodle into the right shape, then paper-mache, sand, paint + seal it? Then it would be soft…
Alternately, I think if you go to the dollar store, you could find plastic tubes (e.g. bug catching nets with plastic handles or something?) that you could cut and paint…
You could probably also go to a hardware store and see if they had plastic piping if you didn’t find anything at the dollar store that could be repurposed…
Unfortunately, because it doesn’t allow wood, you’re going to have to get kind of creative with your materials haha. Maybe even make some bristol board tubes, stuff them with newspaper, then do the paper-mache etc? Or a cardboard tube, depending on the thickness… (Maybe like wrapping paper rolls?)
