Kaltenbach Shares Earthen Building Expertise with Other Builders
Santa Fe, New Mexico - January 20, 2012 - Is building an earthen home similar to building a traditional wood home? Custom builder Sean Kaltenbach explains that these types of building are actually quite different. "There are significant differences that are key for the inexperienced earthen builder to understand." To illustrate Kaltenbach even says many words not used in traditional building - earth wall sealing, rammed earth, moisture stabilizing, modulus of rupture, speed leads, adobe domes, and bond beams for example. Fortunately Mr. Kaltenbach's shares his experience and expert craftsmanship with other builders through demonstrations, instructions, on-site help, and advocacy. His knowledge is often shared through venues such as the Southwest Solar Adobe School and the Cielito Lindo Ranch educational center. He directly assists other builders with experience-based advice on plans and construction. He also provides on-site help with earth block wall building, earth/lime plastering, and custom features. As Chairman of the Board of Directors for The Earthbuilders' Guild, he works with other industry leaders such as Jim Hallock and Joe Tibbets to represent the Earthen Construction Industry of New Mexico, clarify misconceptions about earthen building, work with building code officials, and foster research in building materials.
