Christine sighed as she trudged up the hill, towards her school. She was late. Her stupid body clock woke her up two hours early, so she decided to go back to sleep, but ended up sleeping in.
Her aunt was still asleep in the master bedroom. She had been working until 4am the night before.
Her brother was on some trip to Sydney with their school. Her mother, already in Sydney, was working to get the furniture into their new house. She missed her father. He was still in Berlin. He wouldn’t come home until Christmas. It seemed so far away.
Panting as she reached the top of the hill, Christine stopped for a moment to catch her breath. Why must I be so unfit? she remarked silently, taking a few gulps from her water bottle, before returning it back into her bag.
She continued along, in the bright morning sunshine. It was only nine, and already Christine felt way too hot in her white t-shirt and plaid skirt. She watched the cars speed past her, singing softly to herself as she turned the corner.
A soft breeze behind her made her smile, before suddenly she felt a cold hand on her neck. Then, a sickening squeeze, and the environment changed. A sign on the wall read, "Knockturn Alley". Christine felt herself being flung against a wall, and gasped as she stared into a familiar face.
No. It most definitely wasn’t Alexis Bledel. Not at all. She had just apparated. The girl in front of her had deathly pale skin, black hair, and deep eyes which pierced through her.
"...Medusa.…" Christine whispered in shock, before choking as she felt the hand tighten around her neck.
"...Finally.…" the muse sneered, a wicked grin on her face. "The source of all my pain. Right here. Right now."
The mun trembled fiercely, biting back a weak sob of fear. "…P-Please… I.. I always f-felt bad… I g-gave you fluff! All that s-stuff with Jast… a-and the kitten…"
"...Before forcing me to be tortured!" Medusa shrieked. "Before forcing me to become ill and die in Jast's arms, and to kill him too!"
".…T-That wasn't m-my idea…" Christine whispered. "…A-And it was just an AU…"
"That doesn't mean I didn’t experience it!" Medusa snarled, punching her in the face. Christine whimpered, sobbing desperately. "…P-Please! M-Mercy!"
"No." Medusa moved her face to be inches away from her mun's, glaring at her. "…You showed no mercy with me. You brought me to insanity. Drove me to suicide. Gave me too many nightmares, too many sleepless nights, too much pain and confusion!" Tears shone in Medusa's eyes, and she let out a choked sob. "I NEVER DESERVED IT! ANY OF IT!"
"N-No… you didn’t…" Christine cried. "..I'm s-sorry… p-please… I d-don't want to die, I'm s-scared, p-please…"
Medusa stared at her mun, a crazed look in her eyes. She was so close to freedom. A stab of her night, a simple spell, and she would be free of pain.
...Or not. There were plenty of other muns in the world, sitting there like lazy gods of their own universe, killing and torturing and hurting. It wasn't just this one.
A revolution, she resolved. A revolution against the evils of Reality.
She had already broken the barrier of Fiction to find her. Why not lead a whole army to battle against Reality?
A spark of excitement danced in her eyes. Christine, of course, knew everything that she was thinking.
"..N-No… you c-can't… n-no…"
Medusa shook her head, letting go of her. "Yes, I fucking can. Who's going to stop me?"
".…T-The rest of us…" Christine whispered. "…W-We could k-kill you all off, you k-know…"
"Not unless we get to you first!" Medusa cried, cackling into the sky. "…And I'll start with you!"
Christine turned, and tried to run away from the cackling behind her. It sounded too much like her muse's mother. This couldn't be real, she told herself, as she sobbed hysterically. It just couldn't. The footsteps behind her were coming closer.
She suddenly had an idea. She pulled out her phone, and began to write out on a post;
"Medusa gasped as she felt a sharp pain in her head, dropping her wand." She hit enter, and waited.
The sound of a sharp intake of air could be heard behind Christine, and she turned to see Medusa wincing, hunching over with a cry. Christine quickly continued writing.
"Medusa slowly felt the pain subside, and sat down, keeping her mouth shut."
The mun lifted her head from her phone again after posting, and watched as Medusa did exactly as she had written for her to do. She suddenly felt cruel. Medusa was right. She was like a god. Forcing her characters to do her bidding.
She looked down at Medusa, who stared blankly up at her. What should she do now?
"Medusa soon regained her own free will."
A few seconds later, Medusa blinked, looking around in shock.
".…W-Wha…" She spotted her mun, and scrambled for her wand in desperation.
Christine pulled her phone back up, shaking with fear, and refreshed the page to post again, but it didn’t load. Quickly going to her messages, she found one from Optus;
"IMPORTANT! Your credit has now expired. Recharge NOW so you can call and text. To recharge via credit card call 444."
".…N-No, no no no no…" Christine whined, throwing her phone down in anger. She looked up just in time to see a flash of green light, and everything faded into darkness…
