This was a tough week as COVID-19 continues to take the lives of those vulnerable. The loss of Ellis Marsalis, Jr , a patriarch of Jazz and American culture. I had the great honor of working at @columbiarecords with the Marsalis’ including @wyntonmarsalis & @brandfordmarsalis and on their releases (including those with Ellis) #joecoolsblues #MidnightBlues #LovedOnes & my particular favorite #buckshotlefongue ... my mentor Anne Marie Wilkins, whom also managed the Marsalis’ music careers asked me to also help as they built The Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in New Orleans after Katrina. This is a family (& friends / associates) that have not only contributed to American Art & Culture, but whom have given and given to their community in New Orleans, to youth, to education, to the disadvantaged, & ultimately to us all by living by example of class + empathy.
