Taking the long way around...
Just thought I'd describe what goes into making one of my game review videos, so here I go:
After choosing a game, I usually will write up the script. Sometimes I will play the game and record capture first (which is probably a better idea than doing the script first, but I often have a good idea as to what I want to say first.)
Once there's a script and game footage, then I shoot what I want to say, which despite my stuttering, has become the easiest part of the video-making process. Once the video is complete, it's time to start the editing process.
While I do have an older version of Adobe Premiere elements, I hardly use it. Mainly to extract audio from video clips or adjust volume levels on clips.
There's a little too much slow down in playback when I try to use it for everything, so a lot of the time, I stick to using Windows Live Movie Maker. Which is an effective, albeit very limited piece of editing software.
Editing the clips of me talking is the easiest part of editing, Often it's little more than cutting a stutter out here and there. I'm pretty good at catching myself when I flub something in the video recording, so I'll do multiple takes and splice together what I need.
In order to make the clips of game footage that I do, I often will record video of myself reading the voice-over. Usually recorded with the rest of the video. I do it with video so my voice sounds the same as the rest of the video. I will publish that section and then import it into Premiere Elements to extract audio to its own file. Then I'll edit together the game footage with Movie Maker with the voice-over on top of it.
The project file with the game footage and voice-over will get saved as a video file unto itself, then imported back into the main project.
It's probably a lot more time consuming to do it this way, but it works for me.
If I was to guess, the whole process from scripting to completion takes anywhere from 6 to 10 hours over the course of 3 days or so. Lately I try to have script writing done in advance. I usually have a couple ready to go onto the next step at any time.
