Johanna(7): I only have one dollar.... But it's a five dollar!
I missed class last Monday night because I was sick. This week Johanna, one of my favorite kids ever, brought me a card she made covered in sequins, with a giant bunny drawing inside and the words "I hope you feel better." On the back was a little pouch with a word bubble conversation that argued with itself about whether it should be opened. It ended with yes, so I opened it and see yarn. I think it's going to be a bracelet or something, but it keeps going. So I'm thinking there will be something at the end. There isn't. It is literally just approximately ten feet of yarn. This kid brought me a giant string of yarn because I was sick last week. I love children so much.

Karlina (7): What's the biggest pen in the world? Pennsylvania! Get it?
Johanna (7): Oh yeah, that's a place on Magic Treehouse.
Me: It's a place in real life, too.
Johanna: [laughing] No it's not!
Johanna (6): I've never been to Eagle's Nest!
Me: What is that?
Johanna: I don't know, I've never been there!
When I finish my painting, do you think it will be as beautiful as a real live school bus?
Johanna, age 6 (painting was of bunnies)
Johanna (6): Art was invented a really, really long time ago.
Me: Yeah? Like how long?
Johanna: Probably 100 years ago.
