Current Exhibition: Johan Van Mullem at C24

C24 Gallery in Chelsea currently has a painting exhibition on view by the Belgian artist Johan Van Mullem. A series of Van Mullem's moody, surreal, abstract portraits are on display in this exhibition. The paintings features a dark palette and are reminiscent of Francis Bacon's portraits, in which the interior feelings of the subject are more represented than the subject's physical appearance. Van Mullem's work has also been compared to that of William Blake and Francisco Goya. Van Mullem (b. 1959) lives and works in Waterloo, Brussels. He was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and spent seven formative years in Tunisia.

This exhibition will be on view until February 22nd.
