Australia II (KA 6) is an Australian 12-metre-class America's Cup challenge racing yacht that was launched in 1982 and won the 1983 America's Cup for the Royal Perth Yacht Club. Skippered by John Bertrand, she was the first successful Cup challenger, ending a 132-year tenure (with 26 successful defences) by the New York Yacht Club.

This John Bertrand interview's a little different than the usual, it's with marketing people so it's focused on team culture and symbolism in the America's Cup and the Olympics-- which are topics I find interesting!

This is really the only dialogue John Bertrand has euphemized so far in this book (he certainly isn’t shy about the “F” word), which makes me wonder if this WASN’T just the usual “Shove it up your…” but some really horrible rude-even-by-Australian-standards way to say it that I can’t even imagine.
“A bunch of maniacal octogenarians” is my new favorite description of the New York Yacht Club.
A constellation is not the same thing as a galaxy! Didn’t you go to MIT?!?
It’s funny that 40 years later the worst kind of cranky old guys like to complain about this kind of American parenting but here John Bertrand is jealous of it.
