"We understand that John Bigler, who unfortunately for California was Governor of this state for four years, will leave today for Valparaiso.
We are exceedingly obliged to Mr. Buchanan for having done us the favor to appoint John Bigler to a foreign mission. May swift winds waft him to the place of his destination and may they always blow him away from these shores.
California could spare a great many better men than John Bigler."
