All Night Long was released in the UK on 6 February 1962.

Basil Dearden’s “jazz meets Shakespeare” was written by Paul Jarrico and Nel King, updating William Shakespeare’s Othello. Jarrico had been blacklisted in Hollywood since 1954 and had moved to Europe a few years later, where he writing scripts under the name Peter Achilles (his real name was not added to the credits until 1998). Betsy Blair had also been blacklisted in Hollywood, and had moved to Europe in 1957 to continue acting.

The film received mostly negative reviews (critics seemed particularly annoyed at the ending), but its reputation has improved, and the film is notable for including Dave Brubeck and Charles Mingus (who were on tour in Europe during filming) as well as British jazz musicians John Dankworth and Tubby Hayes.

All Night Long was not released in the US until April 1963.
