Short Film of The Week: Soda Pop Stop
Last week was a food short, and this week will be no different. I've always had a passion for unique beverages, especially sodas. I found this short a couple years back and two things stood out to me immediately. One, the fact that I need to order from SodaPopStop.com and how much I want to be like the owner of the store. If you hate your job and love interesting sodas this is the short for you. On a personal note I love when people are passionate about what they do, and that is the case here. Brought to you by CHOW.com I can't be more thankful. Take just under thirteen minutes to indulge as store owner John Nese takes you through the many different types of sodas in the world today. NOTE: The Cucumber Soda is OUTSTANDING.
Obsessives - Soda Pop (by CHOW)
This man is an absolute boss. You can see how happy he is to be doing what he does. It's brilliant and inspiring. The world needs more people like him.
John Nese is the proprietor of Galcos Soda Pop Stop in Los Angeles. This place is friggin' amazing, but the thing that really brings it to life is John Nese. His enthusiasm and knowledge is awesome. He manages to be genuinely enthusiastic and exuberant at the same time! The Willie Wonka of soda.
In addition to running a retail store, Nese also has a wholesale business. He espouses the benefits of small businesses in a succinct and insightful way (right around 8:03):
My thought had always been that what I wanted to do was do business with other businesses my size. To help them become unique businesses.
Now, obviously, he needs to make money in order to perpetuate the business, but his awareness to the importance of establishing relationships with small bottlers and small retailers/restaurants is simple and very approachable. It is a reflection of his personality, happy, playful, and smiley.
Some people will say this is all very feel good, but I think if you're genuine and care about the network you are part of people will enjoy you and the product/service you offer.
People with this kind of passion are one of the inspirations for this blog. John Nese of Soda Pop Stop.
The soda-guy knows
I tweeted this video quite a few months ago but forgot to upload it here.
John Nese from www.sodapopstop.com knows his niche. He is honest, true, transparent. After 2 mins of this video I TRUST him. This video demonstrates the importance of being an engaging guy who knows his stuff and is enthusiastic about it (true 'personal brand' in horrible industry speak), not the importance of social media. It just so happens that social media could be used to highlight these traits and develop his business.
Sodapopstop.com could rev up the social media engines far further than it does at the moment, and there's not much need for explanation as to why this might work well. Once you watch the video I hope you'll see what I mean.
John Nese could perhaps wrap up the soda niche as comprehensively as winelibrary.tv has for wine. If he wanted to. No doubt you may be able to find social media companies online that will analyse what this guy should do, but I get the feeling that he may be quite happy as he is - don't you?
