I will be taking a hiatus from publishing for the month of August 2026. August is my birth month, and Augusta needs a break. I am trying to avoid burnout and allow myself some time to breathe and relax. I want to experience art as much as I create it, and I haven't been allowing myself that time lately.
I do plan to come back in September, and if anything happens to prevent that I'll update as I can.
I mean I'm very much an atheist, but if a hot vampire priest offered me eternal life at the price of converting to christianity I'd feel pretty tempted

"“Listen to me,” she growled, eyes ablaze, “you got a death wish or somethin’? You step foot over that property line, after talkin’ like that, he’ll try to kill you.” Her lips thinned as her hands balled into fists on his shoulders. “You can fuck around with it all you want after the body gets taken back to the mainland and they release the house, but Hassan already doesn’t trust you, and if you trespass on an active crime scene he’ll tell the mainland police he thinks you did it and they’ll lock your narrow ass up faster’n you can say a Glory Be. Won’t be no vampire blood in County jail. Comprende?” She asked."
a/n: i thought they kinda cheated on her character so i decided to give her a bit of backstory.
disclaimer: the point of backstory is to act as a basis and reasons for a character's actions, but in no way am i justifiying her bad qualities/actions or think they are reasonable and should be defended (e.g. her racism).
bev keane is an old dhampir (half human and half vampire). think interview with the vampire and castlevania logic* fused together with a twist. she could've turned into an actual vampire during the crazy happenings in that church scene but there’s no fun in that.
how old? around the middle ages kind of old when she first realised who she was. bev’s parents definitely abandoned her as a child; her vampire dad was for sure whoring around and the pain was too much for her mortal mother to bear. plus imagine being in the middle ages where they thought spilling blood could cure diseases; how would she know how to raise a dhampir baby?
bev was for sure still sour and stuck up in the medieval ages, the type of person to snitch on a witch – despite having no religion – for the money. she spent most of her childhood on the medieval streets of ireland – idk i kinda see her being in remmick’s (sinners, 2025) dance circle as a CLOSE and PERSONAL friend 😭😭. aside from that, bev mostly stole, did what she could to get by, and some morally grey things too (up for interpretation, we know how evil she is), all because she had no guidance and didn't know what to do. at some points of her life, maybe teens, bev gets this need to be around people and finds herself creeped out by how much she wants their proximity. except for this one guy who she thinks smells awful but still talks to because he’s easy to steal from. you know how people regard the body and soul as two different things, it wasn't just bev's soul needing to be around humans, but her body too. and that's when she had her suspicions.
the reason she doesn’t act like a dhampir from the start is simply because she didn't know. think psychological schemas, identity-consistent behaviour or whatever the right term is. she thought her weird ‘cravings’ were signs of her going mad but she got used to it. when she got really desperate and hungry, she’d bite herself (like that one pruitt scene 👀). one day as she's about to get caught by the authorities, with a massive lump of stolen goods, the smelly guy at the store swoops in to save her. she's grateful until he bares his fangs and bites into her. she feels her blood pooling around her, its a flavourful smell, sweet and savoury like some kind of honey chicken, but whatever version of that they had in middle ages ireland lmfaoo. the guy tells her she has unusual blood that's too hard for him to resist. i’m pretty sure the logic of dhampir blood tasting better than human, or anything else, is from a different franchise altogether so, let's keep it at that.
and because christianity is so dominant – basically ingrained in her subconscious – like you could not walk the streets without seeing a crucifix, bev takes her being bitten as a sign. she chooses to be devout to god and thinks her life is changing for the better as she now has a sense of direction and is repentful for the things she wouldn't even want to name. and because deep down, she knows not having a physical manifestation of her god isn’t going to satiate her ‘blindness’ she comes across a coven of vampires with a leader she found alluring. they accept bev, teach her their ways of the coven but its not up to her standards and never will be. despite them nurturing her to accept and learn more of her vampirehood, teaching her what it means in the historical vampire hierarchy to be a dhampir and the significance behind it, their lack of devotion in god makes her fearful for her supposed place in heaven. so she does what she does best, bringing things to shreds. she becomes chummy with all the rest of the coven members – the leader too – which is part of her plan to become leader herself to run things how she wants. she spreads the leader’s rumours and gossip to the coven members; the leader gets dropped. but bev's moment of glory is short lived as the leader reconciles with the team and they all jump bev so she’s back to base one.
now, bev's bored. she’ll never find another coven like that one, so similar to iwtv vampires, she wanders. as a holy trip around the world - he would've wanted her to be free from her sad situation at home. she steals, does what she can (in the name of the lord, of course) to go on boat trips to different countries. bev sees eastern europe, whatever greece was back then, you know all the latin catholic countries. as time goes on, she hears of the ‘new’ country america, and its perfect timing because she was getting bored of her corner of the earth. mind you, she’s aged quite a lot because of how slow transportation is and everything. she has nobody to mourn, everyone she ever bothered talking to, and kind of cared for, were like her, vampires. so she takes this trip to america and sees how the colonisers run things. at first, she’s conflicted but once bev heard their abuse was backed by the bible, she started slobbering all over it. call her the first lady maga general (whatever the hell that even means). i could delve deeper into christianity and its tie to white suprmcy but that’s for a WHOLE other day 😭. bev’s experience in america is what made her adopt her a violent, fight-for-christ kind of attitude and gives reason to why she’s so offended by other religions. in her mind, christianity is the religion that saved her and led her to be a ‘better’ person. why would anyone follow anything else?
(this is going to be brief) bev's introduction to christianity is what gives her a superiority complex over everyone as she came to christ in a way no one else did. according to my hcs, she’s also the perfect example of a christian miracle too. but time skip a ton of years later, she sees john pruitt, how great of an embodiment he is of god and decides he must be the one she follows. bev now has her own physical god and when she noticed he was succumbing to the illnesses of mortality, she called up her situationship in slovakia (she liked his authenticity to the vampire culture) to fix him right up. all is well and her god can live forever, so she thought.
my separate theory is john’s vampiric blood increases her vampire to human blood ratio (like how it sort of did to the humans), increasing how much she acts as a vampire rather than a human. don’t ask how that would work biologically but it would, ok. and because of that, her perfect dhampir mix is no longer and her blood begins to smell fouler, making her death by the sun logically possible. i really liked the touch of her trying to dig a grave for her to hide, in that last scene. it was pathetic but poetic because even if she did dig up her grave and survive, what the hell would she do? all those cats, gone. all the humans, gone. all the boats, gone. should’ve just accepted her fate ngl
*for those who don’t know // iwtv logic: older vampires (idk the specific age but probably several centuries) can stay under the sun longer than newbie vampires. castlevania (or maybe general) logic: dhampirs can grow to a certain age with their senses heightened and that is the form they stay as forever.
“…why does John look exactly like you? Are you his–his son or something?”
John gazed down at the photo and his face softened, glancing at himself before he studied the other three men. His heart ached; he missed his friends, he missed the problems he had back then. He closed his eyes as he heard Kate inhale sharply. He felt both fear and relief on realizing she had felt everything. He was so very tired. Tired of hiding, and tired of lying. “No… I’m not his son,” he murmured as he met her eye, “but you know that.”
